DESCRIPTION:SFA is bringing the fall symposium to Birmingham the weekend of October 24-26\, 2025. We’ll explore both the built and imagined Southern city. Together we’ll query how to better understand urban spaces in a region commonly imagined as rural. We’ll consider the role urban spaces play in our collective constructed memory. We’ll imagine how cities might shape the future of the American South. We’ll examine metropolitan landscapes\, learn how urban communities stay connected to the land\, and ponder how newcomers find space in crowded cityscapes.
