SUMMARY:My Morning Jacket “is” On Tour presented by Birmingham Mountain Radio
DESCRIPTION:Buy Tickets\nPlan Your Visit \n \nDoors open 6:30 p.m.\, show at 7:30 p.m. \nMy Morning Jacket’s 10th studio album and first full-length new collection in more than three years\, is arrives via ATO Records on Friday\, March 21. Produced by 3x GRAMMY® Award-winner Brendan O’Brien (Bruce Springsteen\, Pearl Jam)\, the album is heralded by the ravishing lead single\, “Time Waited\,” available everywhere now. An official music video\, directed by famed photographer/filmmaker Danny Clinch and featuring new performance footage interspersed with archival photos from throughout the band’s history\, is streaming now on YouTube. \nFor more than 25 years\, My Morning Jacket have achieved an incredibly rare feat in the world of rock ‘n’ roll – upholding a long-established cultural legacy while sustaining all the curiosity and creative hunger of their very earliest days. In a monumental step for the Louisville\, KY-bred five-piece – vocalist/guitarist Jim James\, bassist Tom Blankenship\, guitarist Carl Broemel\, drummer Patrick Hallahan\, keyboardist Bo Koster – is once again expands the limits of their sound and elevates their artistry to unprecedented heights. The result is perhaps the most masterfully realized work yet from a band fully committed to their belief in music as a conduit for revelation of all kinds. \n“I like how the word “is” indicates a sense of presence in the now – there’s no logic or rationale behind this record; it just is\,” says James. “All these songs came into existence out of an attempt to connect with something beyond the human experiment\, which for me is the whole purpose of music – that connection with something larger than us\, yet something we are all equally a part of.” \nis – which arrives as My Morning Jacket celebrates the 20th anniversary of their 2005’s landmark Z\, a lavishly acclaimed collection named by Rolling Stone among “The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time” – represents another milestone in the band’s ever-evolving body of work\, as well as an opportunity to breathe new energy into their historically stunning and hard-driving live performances. James points to the “undeniable force of loving” as the most essential factor in the band’s longevity and unending enchantment with the process of musical creation. \nPlan Your Visit to view the seating chart\, see nearby restaurants and hotels.\n\n\n\nParking Info:\nThe Alabama Theatre is not responsible for parking and does not provide any free parking.\nParking meters are free after 6pm on weekdays and all day on Saturday and Sunday.\nPlease be aware of tow-away zones. Lots marked “permit parking only” are tow-away zones and they will tow your vehicle at your expense.

SUMMARY:ATOS meeting featuring Jay Mitchell at the Mighty Wurlitzer
DESCRIPTION:The Alabama Chapter of the American Theatre Organ Society will host a March chapter meeting March 30\, featuring a performance by Jay Mitchell at Big Bertha\, the Alabama Theatre’s Mighty Wurlitzer Theatre Pipe Organ. Guests are welcome and there is no admission fee to attend. \nIt will be another visit to a dear\, close relative for Jay\, as he returns to “Aunt Bertha”\, The Alabama Theatre’s big Wurlitzer organ.  Jay grew up on this organ\, learning\, practicing\, and performing.  His earliest performances were rather stiff renditions of jazz tunes he played on the organ for “Teen Time”\, a regular Saturday morning talent show for teenagers\, during the late 1950s. \nPursuing college studies\, playing for church services\, directing a church choir and opening two organ teaching studios during the 1960s\, took him away from the theatre and the organ\, but he returned to the Alabama in 1970 to work with the Southeastern Chapter ATOS (now Atlanta ATOS) in refurbishing the organ. His renewed contact with the instrument led to his appointment as curator of the organ\, and with two of his organ students\, the beginning of the Alabama Chapter ATOS. \nDuring this March 30th play fest\, Jay will be looking for some not to be forgotten old tools he and Larry Donaldson used to use working on the organ during their midnight to dawn work sessions….a homemade volt meter and a couple of old telephone system headsets…sure to be found somewhere close by the old relay room. \n
