This Thursday, Aug. 2, at 6 p.m., the Cahaba River Society hosts a free documentary showing (it’s short!) and Q&A at Avondale Brewery in Birmingham. This sneak peek screening is intended to raise public awareness about the potential impact of a proposed Cahaba Beach Road and bridge project. Libraries and conservation groups join forces to promote the Southern Exposure film series

Recently, the Southern Environmental Law Center (SELC) and Black Warrior Riverkeeper formed a partnership to donate 2015 and 2016 “Southern Exposure” DVDs to the Jefferson County Library Cooperative.

“Southern Exposure” is a series of documentary shorts on various Alabama environmental topics by independent filmmakers.

Southern Exposure Film Screening set for Sept. 8th – Free!

Fellows from this year’s Southern Exposure Film Fellowship will screen their films on September 8th. Filmmakers from all over the nation came to Birmingham to participate in the 6-week program. They got the opportunity to learn about and shed light on some of Alabama’s environmental issues.

“To make a film from start to finish in six weeks is no easy feat, and that compressed timeframe is very unusual in documentary filmmaking,” said Michele Forman, Program Director for the Southern Exposure Film Fellowship. “The fellows must research their subjects and film everything they come across–all of the interviews, events, getting shots at a variety of locations–and edit it all together to make a compelling and clear story.”
