ARTFix! Printmaking with Paul Williamson

Space One Eleven is offering a six week introductory-style printmaking workshop led by artist Paul Williamson. Invented in China nearly two thousand years ago, printmaking is still a viable and exciting art medium today. This class, for high school-aged through adults, will expose students to several types of printmaking, including monoprinting, collagraphy, transfer, and relief, resulting in students producing multiple prints for each fun and creative printmaking type. Open to all skill levels.

Age 15+
Cost: $240, includes most supplies.

Teaching Artist bio: With a Fine Arts degree from Huntingdon College and a Master’s degree in Art Education from the University of Montevallo, Paul Williamson has been teaching art and exhibiting his artwork for nearly three decades.  This award winning instructor loves motivating his students to succeed in their creativity so that they grow as artists.

Copper Plate Intaglio Printmaking

Inspired by old masters and Birmingham’s Richard Coe, learn a
contemporary twist on an age-old printing technique with Greg Randall.

Many artists over the last few hundred years have created etchings using the copper plate intaglio technique, including Rembrandt, Goya, Dürer, and Richard Coe, whose depictions of Birmingham during the Great Depression are the focus of Magic City Realism: Richard Coe’s BirminghamLearn a contemporary twist on this age-old printing technique with artist Greg Randall.

No prior experience necessary. Learn how to make your own copper plate and make several prints!

Registration is required and includes two classes. Open to adults and high school students who are accompanied by an adult.

Silkscreen Printmaking

Learn the silkscreen process from start to finish!

Learn the silkscreen process from start to finish!

Students will begin by creating and exposing their own screens before printing unique designs on paper or cloth. Jumpstart your creative process by using local artist-made silkscreens inspired by works in the BMA collection. Open to adults and high school students who are accompanied by an adult. Registration required.
