Shelby Humane’s Paws for the Cause 5k & 1 Mile Tail Waggin’ Trek

Held Saturday, April 4th – Paws for the Cause is a certified 5k off-road cross-country race through the beautiful Veterans Park in Hoover. The course takes you on a path through the park around the lake and through tree-lined trails surrounding the park. The 5k is dog-friendly (well-behaved dogs on leash).

NEW: The Tail Waggin’ Trek was a hit last year and return for 2020! The Tail Waggin’ Trek is a 1-mile “obstacle” course run for individuals or teams and fun for adults, kids & dogs! All obstacles are family-friendly and either silly fun animal-themed challenges suitable for all ages and those that can walk a mile.

5k begins at 8:30 am and 1 mile Tail Waggin’ Trek begins at 9:30 am.

Shelby Humane’s Wolfenoot

What is “Wolfenoot”? Wolfenoot is when the Spirit of the Wolf brings and hides small gifts around the house for everyone. People who have, have had, or are kind to dogs get better gifts than anyone else. Wolfenoot is a night of Good People, Good Beer and Good Pups! A celebration of canines, kindness & humans who embrace both. No hate, only #snootboops. Bring your pup out for chance to win amazing prizes in our pet costume contest. (This event was rescheduled from Halloween due to weather). Or get ready for the holidays by dressing your pup in Christmas sweaters! Find your new family member from the adoptable pets from Shelby Humane that will be onsite. Free to attend! Donations accepted to Shelby Humane. Costume contest entry is $10 per pet. Register onsite by 6:30 pm, contest starts at 7:00 and awards at 7:30. Other fun games and activities for you & your pets! Plus, a portion of beer sales will be donated to Shelby Humane from Good People. Food available for purchase. Howls & Growls

Are you ready for a HOWLING good time?  You don’t want to miss Howls & Growls October, 26th at Haven in the Lakeview district of Birmingham, AL! The Greater Birmingham Humane Society Young Professionals Board is hosting the Fifth Annual Howls & Growls Halloween celebration benefiting the Greater Birmingham Humane Society. Howls & Growls is a Halloween-themed event that raises money and awareness for the thousands of animals the Greater Birmingham Humane Society serves each year. The event features live music from 17th floor, games and activities, live streaming of the Alabama and Auburn football games, and local food and craft beer from Avondale Brewing and Good People Brewing. Proceeds from the event benefit the continued efforts of the Greater Birmingham Humane Society.

Pooch Plunge

The dog days of summer may be in the past, but your dog’s favorite day of summer is still to come! LJCC’s Pooch Plunge will be the highlight of your dog’s year as he or she gets to jump, swim, dive, fetch, and of course doggie paddle their way through the pool.

Price: $15/dog (multi-dog discount available)

– Dogs ONLY in the pool

– All dogs must play nice (The LJCC reserves the right to ask you and your dog to leave)

– All dogs must be up to date on shots (bring proof of rabies vaccination)
