Just North of the city center sits some of Birmingham’s most picturesque boulevards and historic houses. This area is called Norwood—a neighborhood unknown to some but beloved by many. Here you’ll find wide, winding streets similar to Highland Avenue in Southside and a beverage boutique owned by a businesswoman encouraging revitalization while shaking up the craft beverage scene. Let’s take a closer look.

Discovering Birmingham’s inspirational Norwood and Ensley murals

Over the past six months, Bham Now has written and photographed murals throughout Birmingham.  Last month, we were distraught when we learned several murals in Avondale and Woodlawn were vandalized. Will we ever see Carraway Hospital’s blue star “revolve” again?

Years ago, when travelers flew into Birmingham, their airplane flight path regularly approached and flew directly over Carraway Hospital. From one’s seat on the plane, you often felt you could reach out and touch  Carraway’s iconic revolving “blue star.”
