Book Release for MANYTHING by dan raphael

dan raphael of Portland, Oregon, Wendy Taylor Carlisle of Eureka Springs, Arkansas, and Jeff Weddle of Tuscaloosa will read poetry to celebrate the release of Manything, the 21st book of poetry by dan raphael (Unlikely Books, 2019). Light snacks will be provided; refreshments available for purchase.

Birmingham native Sonia Sanchez is a nationally-known poet, activist, and educator most often associated with the Black Arts Movement. She is the author of over a dozen books of poetry, as well as critical essays, short stories, plays, and children’s books. Sanchez has been a professor at eight universities and has lectured at over five hundred colleges in the United States, and she was influential in developing Black Studies and African American literature courses. She has received the American Book Award, Robert Frost Medal for poetry, Langston Hughes Poetry Award, and Harper Lee Award, among many others. At this event, she will read from her poems and speak about the writing life.

This event is FREE and open to the public, though tickets are required due to limited space. This evening is only one event of this year’s Magic City Poetry Festival, and it is sponsored by PEN America, AWC, Jefferson State Community College, UAB Department of English, Awesome Foundation, and the Alabama Humanities Foundation.
