For the past year, I’ve donned my citizen scientist hat and used iNaturalist to identify all sorts of bugs, plants and birds in Birmingham. If you love nature and science, if you have kids and want an educational way to integrate tech and the real world—or if you just want to know what the H is that bug clinging to your window—iNaturalist if for you. It’s free and easy, and I’m going to walk you through your first ID.

Vulcan is turning 114! Get your tickets for the Birthday Bash on June 3

It’s the event of the year for family fun at Vulcan Park and Museum! Help Vulcan blow out his candles at his 114th Birthday Bash, along with “V” (Vulcan’s six-foot plush mascot), Birmingham City Mayor Randall Woodfin and City Council President Valerie A. Abbott as well as other city officials. Ice Cream from Piggly Wiggly and Bud’s Best Cookies will be handed out after V blows out his candles!
