Visits and Photos with Singing Santa

Singing Santa, a classic Birmingham tradition, will be available for photos and visits daily through Christmas Eve. Visiting hours are posted online and at Santa’s location near the food court.

Grace House Pumpkin Festival

Join us in Homewood Central Park for a day of fall fun benefiting Grace House! If you’re planning to buy a pumpkin this year, why not let your pumpkin purchase go to support Alabama girls in foster care? Hosted by the Grace House Junior Board! Children’s admission to the Festival is just $10 and adults are free! Get excited for: -A pumpkin included with every child’s admission! -Bounce houses, carnival games, and a video game truck! -A pumpkin decorating station and family photobooth! -Facepainting! -Food and treats from your favorite local vendors!

Highland Honky Tonk: A community music and dance night!

Please join us for an evening of live music and dance at the beautiful Clubhouse on Highland! We’re thrilled to have Dan Sartain‘s all-star country band and Henry Dunkle here to get us movin’ and groovin’ on the best dance floors in town!

Pay what you can to support these fine artists (suggested sliding scale donation of $10-20). All are welcomed to join us regardless of monetary contribution. Cash bar by donation.

Danielle Elizabeth and Ben Jammin’ Dill will also teach a FREE partner dancing lesson to get you moving with grace on the dance floor! We’ll go over the fundamentals of frame and connection, and teach ya some footwork basics like the two-step! No partner needed to join in.

So shine up those dance shoes folks, and get out and support some live, local music at this fun community event! And bring your mamas and your babies too cause you know they love to bust a move!

Did we forget about libraries? Why you should be taking advantage + where to find public libraries in Birmingham

Some of my favorite summertime memories as a child involved going to the library. During those long, hot summer days (before Netflix came around), my older sister and I would run out of entertainment fairly quickly. So, once a week, we would grab our library cards, hop in my mom’s car, and ride down to our local public library. The excitement of scanning the shelves, finding a new novel or maybe the next book in a series I’d been burning through- nothing could compare. I feel confident that I am not alone in that memory. Which begs the question, Birmingham- why have so many of us forgotten about libraries?

Celebrate the rich cultural history of Japan at our Japanese Heritage Festival. Using Japanese art as inspiration, the BMA will explore this beautiful culture through special art activities, tours of the Japanese gallery, and screenings of Anime. Highlighting the day will be a traditional tea ceremony demonstration by the Chado Urasenke Tankokai Birmingham Association.

The New Makers Community Exhibition

Join us for a closing reception and enjoy light refreshments.

There’s a maker in us all. Discover yours at the pop-up Maker Stations by creating your own art inspired by The Original Makers: Folk Art from the Cargo Collection. Each drop-in art session will feature a different community artist and related art activities, so you can make something different every time. 

Drop by Saturday July 21, August 4, and August 11 from 10AM-12:30PM.  

Free, no registration necessary. Open to makers of all ages.

After each Maker Station, take your artwork with you or loan it to us temporarily and be part of the New Makers Community Exhibition in the Sharon and Grady Burrow Education Gallery, August 16 through August 28. Come to the closing reception on August 28 from 5 to 7PM and enjoy light refreshments. After the reception, take home your artwork from the show.
