The show must go on! This weekend, despite the federal government shutdown, the 2019 Festival of the Cranes at the Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge and at locations in and around Decatur, Alabama is ON!
Welcome to the Bham Now Nature Roundup for the week of January 6.
Welcome to the Bham Now Nature Roundup January 13th edition sponsored by the JSU Little River Canyon Center!
In this edition, there is good news all around the region.
This is a real treat.
Lizzie Condon, Whooping Crane Outreach Coordinator for the International Crane Foundation informed Bham Now this afternoon (December 15, 2016) that 18 Whooping Cranes have been spotted on the grounds of the Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge. This week, during the day, up to 12 Whooping Cranes have been seen near the wildlife refuge visitor center/observation building.

If we had to pick the “feel good” story of the week, it has got to be OHenry’s Coffees installation of a solar energy system at their roasting facility.
We truly love the idea of “solar powered” coffee in the morning.
In the coming month, the Whooping Crane, one of the rarest birds in North America will be returning to Alabama.
Yes, that’s right, for Whooping Cranes our state is – Sweet Home Alabama.
