Grown Up Comedy Open Mic

August 15, 2019 @ 8:00 am 5:00 pm

Stop by Barrister’s Tavern every Tuesday night from 7:00-8:00pm (sharp!) and catch some laughs at the end of your work day! This FREE show features both veteran and rising stand-up comics as they work out new material and perfect their craft. The show is just an hour, so you can catch our show and still have time to meet up with friends, see a movie, head out for dinner, or whatever else you’re up to on a Tuesday night!

THINGS TO KNOW:
* FREE ADMISSION! (But buy something. Barrister’s lets us perform because they’re in the tavern business! Keep the show going!)

* LOCATION: Barrister’s Tavern, 1535 Montgomery Hwy, Hoover, AL 35216.  Barrister’s is at the corner of Montgomery Hwy + Lorna Road, set back from the street. Look for the green “Barrister’s Tavern” awning sandwiched between EconoLodge & Waffle House.  Take EXIT 252 off I-65, the US-31/Montgomery Hwy exit.

* This is NOT a family friendly show; age 21+. We don’t have language or content restrictions. This is Grown Up Comedy…..for grown ups!  🙂

* NOTE FOR COMICS. There are approximately 10-12 slots (up to 5-minutes each) per week. Sign-ups are 6:45-7pm, choose your slot. Once the show starts, your name goes on a “standby” list, and if we have time we’ll fit you in before the show ends at 8pm. (There’s almost always enough room for everyone!). If you are a travelling/professional comic in town for a gig and would like to work out a longer set, email us – we can usually accommodate you. If you are driving more than 60-minutes, you can email (grownupcomedyal@gmail.com) a request to sign up in advance to secure a slot, or message us via Facebook the day of show. Never tried comedy before? Give it a shot! This is a very friendly and supportive bunch for newbies.

10 reasons every post-grad should move to Birmingham

Here’s a picture of me walking across a stage, shaking hands with my university’s President (hey Dr. Bennett), and being handed the most expensive piece of paper I’ll ever hold. I had no idea what I was doing with my life starting the next morning. Can you see the joy and fear mixing in my eyes?

I graduated from college in May 2019. Starting approximately June 1, 2018, I was asked this question over, and over, and over again. You know the one: “So, what’s next?” Now, this was certainly well-intended and asked out of genuine curiosity. However, for a senior in college with no clue what they’re doing for spring break, much less with the rest of their lives, it can be a bit panic-inducing. College students, post-grads: have no fear! I’ve got your answer to the dreaded question right here- keep reading to find out!
