Chapter 05: Hank Willis Thomas

Join us as we invite community leaders to talk with the artist Hank Willis Thomas about his personal experience that influenced his work, why it struck such a chord in our community, and the effects of gun violence on our city today.

A Community Conversation About Art, Loss, and Gun Violence

 

Years after its debut, the BMA is bringing back on view Priceless, a work created by Third Space artist Hank Willis Thomas after the death of his cousin Songha Willis. Join us as we invite community leaders to talk with the artist about his personal experience that influenced the work, why Priceless struck such a chord in our community, and the effects of gun violence on our city today.

  • Visual artist Hank Willis Thomas, whose work engages with gun violence in the United States
  • Patrick Johnson, Emmy-nominated producer and documentary filmmaker
  • T. Marie King, filmmaker and founder of Strategic Community Alliance
  • John Paul Taylor, Executive Director of Real Life Poets

Chapters is a six-part series of artists talks, conversations, and performances that accompanies the exhibition Third Space and takes place over two years.
