A Festival of 9 Lessons and Carols

The Cathedral Choir at Cathedral Church of the Advent is pleased to invite the Birmingham community to a traditional service of 9 Lessons and Carols on Thursday, December 20 at 5:30 p.m.

The service is based on a structure popularized by Kings College, Cambridge in England and features passages of Scripture followed by carols. The service offers participants a dignified and simple worship experience. A reader from the congregation speaks each lesson and the congregation sings or listens to the choir sing a carol that reflects on the passage. This combination is repeated through the service, and draws the participating congregation deeply into the story of the coming of Jesus Christ through readings based on scripture passages from both Old and New Testaments. Hearing the Bible taught and sung in this way is deeply moving and connects the participant to the Christmas story in an immersive way.

This is a unique opportunity to hear the Christmas message in a historic downtown Birmingham setting.
