The Upstairs Comedy Series Presents: Dave Ross (Comedy Central, Drunk History, The Late Late Show)

Avondale Brewing Company is proud to welcome comedian Dave Ross to its Upstairs Comedy Series. Dave has been featured on a slew of Comedy Central’s most popular programs like Drunk History & This Is Not Happening. He’s also performed on The Late Late Show with James Corden, and has been a guest on the popular WTF podcast with Marc Maron. The Upstairs Comedy Series, hosted by Birmingham’s own Wes Van Horn, is bringing national touring acts to downtown Birmingham.

Avondale Brewing Company is proud to announce stand-up comedian Dave Stone as the next performer in its new Upstairs Comedy Series, which will bring nationally touring stand-up comics to downtown Birmingham. Hosted by comedian and Birmingham-native Wes Van Horn, the series aims to connect Birmingham comedy lovers with professional acts seen on television, in films, and more – as they tour the country. Based in Los Angeles by way of Atlanta, Dave Stone made his television debut on “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson” in 2013 and in the same year was selected to the prestigious “New Faces” roster of the Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal. Since then, he has been seen on season 8 of NBC’s “Last Comic Standing”, Viceland’s “Flophouse”, and Travel Channel’s “Cheat Day Chow Down”. When not headlining clubs across the country, Dave regularly tours with Craig Ferguson. He also can be heard voicing several characters on Adult Swim’s “Squidbillies”, co-hosting his new paranormal podcast “The Boogie Monster” with Kyle Kinane, and hosting his weekly alt-country radio show “The Gravy Boat”. Avondale Brewing Company is proud to announce stand-up comedian Billy Wayne Davis as the first performer for its new Upstairs Comedy Series, which will bring nationally touring stand-up comics to downtown Birmingham. Grown Up Comedy Open Mic

Stop by Barrister’s Tavern every Tuesday night from 7:00-8:00pm (sharp!) and catch some laughs at the end of your work day! This FREE show features both veteran and rising stand-up comics as they work out new material and perfect their craft. The show is just an hour, so you can catch our show and still have time to meet up with friends, see a movie, head out for dinner, or whatever else you’re up to on a Tuesday night!

THINGS TO KNOW:
* FREE ADMISSION! (But buy something. Barrister’s lets us perform because they’re in the tavern business! Keep the show going!)

* LOCATION: Barrister’s Tavern, 1535 Montgomery Hwy, Hoover, AL 35216.  Barrister’s is at the corner of Montgomery Hwy + Lorna Road, set back from the street. Look for the green “Barrister’s Tavern” awning sandwiched between EconoLodge & Waffle House.  Take EXIT 252 off I-65, the US-31/Montgomery Hwy exit.

* This is NOT a family friendly show; age 21+. We don’t have language or content restrictions. This is Grown Up Comedy…..for grown ups!  🙂

* NOTE FOR COMICS. There are approximately 10-12 slots (up to 5-minutes each) per week. Sign-ups are 6:45-7pm, choose your slot. Once the show starts, your name goes on a “standby” list, and if we have time we’ll fit you in before the show ends at 8pm. (There’s almost always enough room for everyone!). If you are a travelling/professional comic in town for a gig and would like to work out a longer set, email us – we can usually accommodate you. Headliner: Jermaine “FunnyMaine” Johnson was born in Opelika, AL. FunnyMaine is a lifetime class clown and a professional comedian since 2005. His talent has taken him from small stages, to large arenas, television and radio. He’s featured for Kevin Hart, Steve Harvey, Rickey Smiley, Tony Rock, Tommy Davidson and many others. FunnyMaine is perhaps best known for his online college football videos, where he’s turned the ups and downs of Crimson Tide fandom into an art form. Feature: Carla “The Truth” Youngblood was born in Birmingham, AL and is a professional comedienne and motivational speaker providing encouragement and joy with humor. Carla takes pride in being a comedienne who tells it like it is, hence the stage name “The Truth”. In October 2015, when she was diagnosed with breast cancer….she had to talk about. “It is my therapy” says Youngblood. After having 16 rounds of chemotherapy, a double mastectomy and 28 treatments of radiation, she created a show titled “The Truth” about Breast Cancer where she shares her experiences in a unique and hysterical way. This show lead to her being featured on Inside Her Story with Jacque Reid on the nationally syndicated Tom Joyner Morning Show!

Host: Beth Bloomfield was born in Chicago but has lived in New York, Miami, and more than 20 years in Los Angeles. She’s now bringing the funny in Birmingham, AL. She is the co-founder/co-producer of Grown Up Comedy, which hosts a weekly stand-up comedy open mic show in Hoover and a monthly showcase in Vestavia Hills featuring comics from throughout the South. Beth’s brand of comedy has been described as that of the soft-spoken, intelligent but wickedly funny “square.” Her comedy stems from sharp writing and jokes that spring from everyday life and love, as well as her non-Southerner’s fresh take on living in the South.
