Last night’s fire, collapse and closure of Atlanta’s Interstate 85 (I-85) reminded Birmingham residents of its own lengthy interstate closures that occurred at Birmingham’s infamous”Malfunction Junction” at I-65 and I-20/59 in the early 2000s.

Special card supporting Birmingham Civil Rights National Park given to Mayor Bell and Secretary Jewell. Yesterday, President Obama established the Birmingham Civil Rights National Monument.

Yesterday, President Obama, through a proclamation under the Antiquities Act, established the Birmingham Civil Rights and Freedom Riders National Monuments.

A historic day for Alabama.
