Impressionism to Abstraction with Diane Hathcock

Join local artist and teacher Diane Hathcock for a day of expressive painting in a fun filled and informative workshop. Learn how to begin and finish a painting using fun techniques. Workshop participants will receive personal attention and guidance and get comfortable with working fast and loose. The Creative Landscape with David Nichols

This workshop will focus on how to create believable landscapes without the tedious detail. You will be free to focus on capturing the essence of your subject while expressing your unique vision. The end result will be an expressive, contemporary work of art that is both recognizable and abstract. Demonstrations will be in oil, but participants are free to paint with oils or acrylics.

Level 2: Intermediate – Assumes the student has some experience in the medium. Reviews basic techniques and offers individual assistance but moves at a faster pace.

Guided Studio Painting with John Lytle Wilson

Explore color, composition, light and shadow, and visual depth with John Lytle Wilson as your guide. The concepts covered will be applicable to multiple techniques and styles. John will offer one-on-one direction and feedback on your self-directed projects. You may bring phot references, set up still lifes, or use other reference material. Your paintings may include landscapes, portraiture, still lives, or illustrations in a variety of styles. This class is open to intermediate and advanced painters working in oils or acrylics.
John Lytle Wilson is a Birmingham based artist known for his brightly colored acrylics of monkeys, robots, and unicorns. He has fifteen years experience teaching oil painting, drawing, and design at Florida State University, UAB, and Birmingham-Southern.

Exploring Encaustic with Maralyn Wilson

Dazzling the art community with her innovative Encaustic techniques, Maralyn Wilson will be bringing her creativity to Forstall Art Center! This workshop is for all levels: advanced to beginners. For those of you who are advanced, please bring an idea and supplies to do a specific project. Beginners, don’t worry, you will get all the help and technical advice you need to create your masterpiece. Some of the techniques that will be covered are: India ink on rice paper, India ink on wax, collaging, transferring images to the wax, stenciling, and incising. From the Field to the Studio with Bill Farnsworth

 

Join Bill Farnsworth for a three-day oil painting workshop exploring both plein air and studio practices. Spend a day outdoors as Bill demos and shows you how to choose, edit, and capture the essence of a scene in plein air. Back in the studio for the following two days, you will learn how to get the most out of your studies and photographs. Bill’s unique teaching style will give you lots of one- on-one attention while working from the inside out with three main values.

Level 3: Advanced – For students with a good working knowledge of the medium and techniques. Not a beginner course. Individual assistance is offered. Moves at a fast pace.  Class starts on October 11, 2018 and runs from 10am to 4pm Thursday/Friday/Saturday.
