SUMMARY:Cast Iron Bowl Night
DESCRIPTION:Bring some friends and beverages (adult included!) and join the Sloss metal arts staff for a night of cast iron creative fun! The Sloss artists will help you create your own unique cast iron art\, and you’ll watch it be cast in iron!  \n \nThe molds and tools are provided.  \n \nBowls: Create a cereal-sized cast iron bowl! Please note that bowls are not available to take home the same night!!  \nBowls are available for in-person pickup at the Sloss Furnaces Visitor’s Center beginning the following Wednesday during business hours (Tuesday-Saturday\, 10:00AM-3:30PM\, but please check our website for site closures due to holidays or events prior to pickup!).  \n*Bowls are held in the Visitor’s Center for 90 days after the scheduled event date – after this period\, they may be recycled. \n \nAll guests are required to register prior to arrival. \n \nGates open at 5:30PM. \n \nThis event takes place in Sloss Furnaces No. 2 Casting Shed\, directly across from Sloss Furnaces Visitor Center.  \nPlease park in the Visitor Center parking lot and walk directly into the casting shed.

SUMMARY:Sloss Metal Arts Summer Youth Apprenticeship Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:This art exhibition features sculptural works from our exhibiting apprentice artists\, demonstrating their unique artistic voices and the breadth of the skills they’ve acquired throughout the apprenticeship.  \nIn addition to their independent sculptures\, we’ll also have products created by the apprentices for purchase\, including bookends\, coins\, skewers\, hooks\, and more! All proceeds go towards continued funding for the Summer Youth Apprenticeship program.  \nThis reception is free and open to the public! \nRSVP’s are not required to attend\, but help us in planning and preparations!  \n \nThe 8-week Summer Youth Apprenticeship employs high school students\, ages 16-19\, to study under professional artists for 30hrs/week. The program is designed to introduce students to various processes and techniques in a hands-on\, individualized environment. Instructors integrate ideas about form\, design\, and materials into projects that teach the apprentices metal casting\, welding\, and forging. This exhibition is designed and coordinated by the apprentices\, with the help of Sloss’s Resident Artists and Staff.
