DESCRIPTION:Opera Birmingham invites audiences to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year with Sounds of the Season\, a heartwarming holiday concert on Sunday\, December 14\, 2025\, at 2:30 PM in Brock Hall at Samford University. \nA cherished Birmingham tradition\, Sounds of the Season combines the power of opera with the joy of the holidays\, featuring an uplifting program of beloved carols\, festive favorites\, and timeless classics. This year’s concert will showcase the rich voices of Kevin Thompson\, bass; Opera Birmingham’s Freeman Studio Artists; the Opera Birmingham Chorus and Children’s Chorus; and the Birmingham Girls Choir. \nFrom stirring renditions of What Child is This? and Away in a Manger\, to jubilant choral works that capture the magic and spirit of the season\, this afternoon of music promises to inspire and delight audiences of all ages. \nTickets for Sounds of the Season are available now at operabirmingham.org or by calling (205) 322-6737. Tickets start at $35 for adults\, and $15 for children and students. DESCRIPTION:Opera Birmingham is proud to present The Diary of Anne Frank by Russian composer Grigory Frid\, based on the text from the original diary written between 1942 and 1944. This opera shares a moving self-portrait of a young girl\, full of spirit and courage and an unending hope for freedom. \nThe Diary of Anne Frank is a monodrama for soprano and chamber orchestra of nine instruments. The opera follows a teenaged Anne Frank as her family hides in a warehouse annex until their arrest by the Nazis. She describes the people and the scenery she can see from her window. She lays bare her hopes\, dreams and emotions as she navigates her teenage years in hiding. The opera was composed in 1968 and consists of 21 brief scenes; originally written in Russian\, the libretto was translated into English in 1991.
