Job Summary          

Manage the day-to-day operations of assigned Community Initiatives programs. Works closely with and supervises program heads in the Meals on Wheels, 2-1-1, Disaster Relief programs and other assigned grants. Establish protocols and help set and achieve performance goals for each program. Monitors and tracks performance against goals for each program. Coordinates the development of grants and funding proposals in support of program objectives. Works with finance to analyze budgets and spending against budgets.


  • Direct department operations to meet budget and other financial goals
  • Direct short-term and long-range planning and problem solving to support program goals
  • Monitor performance goals and program certifications/accreditations
  • Direct execution of operating policies to support overall department program policies and objectives
  • Develop collaboration among internal and external case management programs
  • Participates in grant and proposal writing
  • Represents department in community meetings and campaign speaking engagements as needed
  • Oversees all day-to-day activities of Disaster Recovery including agency coordination/representation, supervision of case managers, community assessments, and other duties as assigned
  • Serves as back-up to the Senior Vice President
  • Knowledge of all Community Initiative programs and requirements
  • Oversees Community Initiatives’ Continuous Quality Improvement Plan
  • Other duties as assigned


Knowledge & Skills

  • Excellent interpersonal, communications, public speaking and presentation skills
  • Solid working knowledge of human services and grants management and programs
  • Ability to generate respect and trust from staff and internal and external constituencies
  • At least 5 years of experience, with management level experience in a human services field
  • Computer proficiency with Windows, Word, Excel, and Outlook applications
  • Organized, self- motivated and goal oriented
  • Genuine interest in the United Way mission 


Master’s degree in related field (MSW, MS, MPA, etc.) preferred


  • Valid Alabama driver’s license
  • Reliable transportation
  • Proof of automobile insurance commensurate with State law
  • Background checks to include but not limited to criminal record, drug screen, and TB test
