Eligibility Specialist, Priority Veteran

The Eligibility Specialist conducts client screenings and intakes and provides administrative support for the Priority Veteran program, which offers Homeless Prevention and Rapid Re-housing services to qualifying Veteran families.

Responsibilities      

  • Answer calls from potential clients and assess eligibility. Prescreen potential clients by phone and/or in person for program eligibility and connect non-eligible clients with other community resources
  • Follow up on all client inquiries in a timely manner
  • Effectively communicate the Priority Veteran program to prospective clients, and community
  • Ensure pre-screenings are accurately documented is Service Point
  • Gather required documents from veterans and accurately conduct eligibility determinations following grant guidelines
  • Schedule intakes and prepare intake packets and materials for the office
  • Provide general reception support and assist with walk-in clients
  • Assist with administrative duties to ensure smooth operation of the office, including organizing office supply deliveries
  • Coordinate with Program Manager on purchase orders and supply deliveries as needed
  • Coordinate temporary financial assistance for veteran clients served by non-SSVF grants
  • Maintain knowledge of other resources available to veterans
  • Demonstrate a thorough knowledge and understanding of the PV and SSVF program guidelines and veteran homelessness
  • Participate in Community Initiatives’ Continuous Quality Improvement Plan
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Knowledge & Skills

Proven knowledge of and experience with U.S. military preferred

Working understanding of the U.S. Veteran’s Administration Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF)

program

Knowledge of and experience with Veterans Administration programs

Excellent interpersonal communication skills

Excellent computer skills to include Microsoft and database

Able to work as team member and independently

Education/ Experience     

Bachelor’s degree in social work, or a related field preferred; military experience preferred, combination of education and experience considered

Requirements

Must meet and maintain eligibility requirements to be insured by UWCA’s insurance

Valid Alabama driver’s license, reliable transportation and proof of automobile insurance commensurate with State law

Cell phone

Background checks to include criminal record, drug screen & TB testing

Available to work weekends or evenings for special events or as needed

Travel to and from sites as needed and appropriate.
