“This is a casual, laid back type of event,” said Lana Beardslee, the museum’s manager of public programs.
“We always have makers activities, guest musicians and we have local mixologists creating drink samples. We always have some kind of fun gallery activity, too, whether it’s a tour or a scavenger hunt.”

Art After Five Presents: The BMA Bootleggers

The April 6 Art After 5 event celebrates the opening of the museum’s exhibition called “Magic City Realism: Richard Coe’s Birmingham”.

“It’s a series of prints from Birmingham in the 30s,” said Beardslee.

“He was an artist who came to Birmingham post World War I to make prints of Birmingham, buildings that are still up and places that have been torn down, so that you can see what Birmingham was like in the 30s.

“We thought we’d do a fun, post-Prohibition-bootleggers kind of vibe for the event.”
