It’s Thanksgiving Day and you’ve successfully eaten way  too much turkey, sweet potatoes, and pie. You’ve laid on the couch, watched football, and slept off your food coma, but then what?

This is your guide to what to do on Thanksgiving Day in Birmingham.

Go See a Movie

Going to see a movie takes minimum effort, which I certainly prefer after stuffing my face on Thanksgiving.

Here’s a list of Birmingham theaters open on Thanksgiving Day:

  • AMC Vestavia Hills 10
  • The Edge 12 on Crestwood Boulevard
  • AMC Summit 16
  • AMC Lee Branch 15 on Doug Baker Blvd
  • Regal Trussville Stadium 16

If you’re looking for a family-friendly film, then seeing the new Disney-Pixar film Coco could be the perfect family outing!

Justice League is also playing on November 23rd on every theater listed above, if you feel like you’ve outgrown the Disney scene (…but can you ever be too old?).

Get Outside

If the weather is nice (looks like it’ll be around 60 degrees), then you may want to get some fresh air on Thanksgiving Day. Birmingham Botanical Gardens is open from dawn to dusk every day of the year, so feel free to take a stroll there.

Or, take a Thanksgiving hike to preface the 3,000,000 calories you may consume later in the day…

Oak Mountain State Park will be open for normal operating hours (7am-5pm).

Red Mountain Park will be open from 7am-12pm if you’re up for a hike, but the park office will be closed.

Go out to eat…?

If you don’t have time to cook, even after reading Bham Now’s Guide to a Hassle-Free Thanksgiving, then you might want to take your family out to eat a good meal.

Here’s a list of Birmingham restaurants that will be open on Thanksgiving Day:

  • Seasons 52
  • Fleming’s Steakhouse
  • Grille 29
  • Galley and Garden
  • Texas de Brazil
  • Ruth’s Chris Steak House

You can make a reservation at one of these places here. They’re booking up, so act fast!

If you aren’t looking to go out for a fancy meal, you can also enjoy a classic Thanksgiving meal at Cracker Barrel.

Whatever your plans are for Thanksgiving, just be sure to take time to be thankful and spend time with people you love. That’s what it’s really all about!
