ASAN’s GRAZE: Support sustainable agriculture and your local farmer

If you are a die-hard local food supporter, the upcoming Alabama Sustainable Agriculture Network’s (ASAN) 3rd Annual GRAZE: Birmingham “farm to fork”  fundraiser on September 17th, 5-8pm at Avondale Brewery is a “must attend” event.

Find out which farmers work with your favorite Birmingham chefs, and will be ‘paired’ to make a new taste creation at ASAN’s GRAZE: Birmingham event!

For example, Highlands Bar & Grill, chef de cuisine Zack Redes will pair with Belle Meadow Farms in Tuscaloosa & ASAN farmer Andrew Questers at the GRAZE event.

“I supply Highlands and I know Chef Zack well. I enjoy working with him and am happy to ‘pair’ with him for GRAZE, too,” stated  ASAN Farmer Andrew Kesterson.

18 farmer/chef “pairs” are expected to participate in ASAN’s GRAZE event.

Charles Walters, ASAN Board Pres., and farmer/owner River Oaks Farm near Montgomery added, “Graze: Birmingham is our annual gathering where we can get a taste of Alabama food; the atmosphere is chill, the food is fresh and great, and if you have family you can bring them along, too!”

350 guests are expected to attend and will be happily, well-fed by 18-20 ‘Farmer/Chef Pairs’ who will be on-hand to tell you about their secret culinary creations.  Fine brewery spirits and a variety of freshly prepared drinks will also be served.  

Formed in 2001 by organic, sustainable farmers to promote good, healthy food, the Alabama Sustainable Agriculture Network – ASAN –   represents 1,400 farmers, farm workers, sustainable farm suppliers and businesses, good food eaters, community garden organizers, home gardeners, and fresh food advocates.

The GRAZE event will showcase the people who plant, nurture, harvest, chop, peel, ferment, fire-roast, stew, and serve the most delicious Central Alabama eats.

Event proceeds support small, rural farmers using healthy methods of sustainable growing and herding.
