When did you officially announce your candidacy and where/how did you do it?

“June 18, 2017 at Kelley Ingram Park during the national Juneteenth observance celebration for Birmingham.”

What is the name of your principal campaign committee?

“Elect Qunelius ‘Cory’ Pettway City Council District 4”

Why do you want to run for Birmingham City Council?

“As an active resident of District 4, I and others have noticed the broadcasted issues of our communities. However, we have not seen the inner investment of the solutions from our current local government representative.

“My goal as city councilor is to strengthen the connection between local government and my fellow citizens it serves.”

What is your background, education and experience?

“I have an extensive background of working within the communities I have lived in, as well as others, to promote the change from within. I also have experience in working with Birmingham politics from a strategical position to carry out the needs of the citizens. I’m a graduate of Midfield High School, class of 2006.
“I studied social work at Miles College, counseling at Baptist College of Florida, early childhood education at Jefferson State Community College, and I have experience in customer service, construction as an educational instructor.”

How will you foster a healthy, working relationship between the mayor’s office and the Birmingham City Council/city hall?

“The philosophy of love. I love life and representations of life. Therefore, I have been able to create, as well as sustain positive and respectful partnerships with others to accomplish the goals of bettering humanity.”

How will you accomplish transparency with the residents of Birmingham, if elected?

“In my opinion transparency is one of the most crucial components in our government. The government is ‘of the people, by the people, for the people’.
“Therefore, it is imperative that all residents are informed and educated on the designs made by our government. When elected I will continue to learn, share and assist my fellow residents and neighborhood officials on the plans and decisions of our district and Birmingham as a whole.”
