Last week, Birmingham was featured in the travel section of the New York Times.

This week, we’ve gone international thanks to Canada’s largest newspaper the Toronto Star.

In today’s edition of the Star, five Birmingham originals are highlighted in an article titled 7 things to experience in Alabama.

Talk about some cool places

If a Birmingham resident was making a list of some of the coolest places in town, these destinations would definitely fit the bill. The article featured (with excerpts):

Charlemagne Record Exchange – “With a helpful staff and a funky vibe, Charlemagne is the record store every town wishes it had.”

Hot and Hot Fish Club:  “Chef Chris Hastings won the James Beard Foundation’s Best Chef of the South award in 2012 for his innovative updating of southern food classics at Hot and Hot Fish Club..”

Saturn: – “The club’s booking policy is wildly eclectic, and the coffee is fantastic, so make it your home base to explore Birmingham’s hottest new neighbourhood.”

Barber Motorsports Museum:  “It’s a spectacular display in a magnificent building that’s about to get bigger with the opening of a new wing that will make the job of taking in all of Barber’s collection even more like a full day’s work.”

Hassinger Daniels Bed & Breakfast: “Every room in this carefully restored and heritage-landmarked 1898 mansion in Birmingham’s Five Point neighbourhood is unique, with names such as the Camelot, Hera’s Lair and the Vulcan…”

Two additional places were profiled in the story, include Muscle Shoals’  Bunyan’s Barbeque and Pell City’s Butts To Go .

Toronto Star writer Rick McGinnis truly discovered some Alabama gems on his visit to the Yellowhammer State.

Can’t wait to welcome some Canadians to the Magic City for a few days this summer. Ya’ll come down and see us!  Eh?
