In the Birmingham area, you have a variety of labor and delivery choices. Depending on your preferences, the choices for you and your new family can be tailored to fit your birthing plan. All of these hospitals offer innovative care in modern settings with lots of parking. You just have to figure out which amenities appeal to you and your family most.

Brookwood Baptist Health System


Brookwood provides faith-based care with birthing centers across the state. Their Women’s Centers include an electronic security system, an online nursery and specialized birthing rooms (like water-laboring suites), as well as neonatal intensive care units, high-risk pregnancy units and breastfeeding/lactation centers. Their facilities provide a combination of suites and spacious rooms, convenient parking, family waiting areas and photography services. Grandview Medical Center

Formerly Trinity Medical Center and before that Baptist Montclair Medical Center, Grandview Medical Center offers:

  • 8 private labor and delivery rooms
  • 4 triage rooms
  • 2 dedicated operating suites for cesarean sections
  • 1 cesarean section recovery room
  • 22 private post-partum rooms

UAB Women and Infant’s Center

The UAB Women and Infant’s Center,  Labor and Delivery Unit  is one of the first in the Southeast to feature all private neonatal intensive care nursery and continuing care nursery rooms. It also offers private labor, antepartum, postpartum, and gynecology patient rooms. Specialized isolation rooms and suites designed for twins and triplets are available, too. Other amenities include lounges, kitchenettes, dens, play areas, and sleeping quarters for a support person.

UAB was also recently recognized for their excellence in lactation care from the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners and International Lactation Consultant Association. You can read more about it via this link.

St. Vincent’s Health System

St. Vincent’s: Birmingham Obstetrics and Gynecology birthing services are known as Monogram Maternity. They offer birth designers (similar to a wedding planner, but for your birth experience), educational classes, the Blessed Beginnings Boutique and special discounts on spa services.

The St. Vincent’s Women’s and Children’s Center offers birth suites with single-room maternity care, triage rooms for monitoring women who think they may be in labor, operating and recovery rooms for Cesarean sections and a Lactation Center. Nearby is St. Vincent’s Birmingham Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for babies who require further medical care. They also boast plenty of convenient parking. If you are interested in delivering your baby at home, good news. Alabama currently approved a House bill that allows midwives to legally practice in the state.
