Shelby County follows the Magic City with Revitalization

Restoring, but never forgetting, the old buildings in a city is needed to progress through the years.

What better way for Columbiana to ring in the New Year by restoring the Davis Drug Company building – the first of many.

A contributed photo given to the Shelby County Reporter depicts the beginnings of renovations started on Dec. 19th.

According to Jim Davis, the owner, here are the details:
  • A new Awning will be added
  • Stucco will be applied to particular parts of the building

“Everybody in town, especially in the downtown area, wanted to get involved in updating to bring back the old, historical culture…

Part of it was redesigning some of the buildings.”

According to Bragan Feldman, Columbiana Main Street Executive, the National Main Street Center is carrying out an initiative to restore many buildings along the drive.

“It’s going to happen to more buildings in Columbiana, because they’re interested in redoing their buildings…

Several of the buildings have received suggestions from the design team. They’re doing it in a step-by-step process, so it’s not one lump sum at a time.”

The fact that our suburbs are in line with the vision of revitalizing Birmingham, as a whole, is outstanding.
