Our Guide to Bham’s Farmers Markets

If you are looking for fresh, local produce, or maybe even artisan crafts and jewelry, Birmingham has the best of the best. Over the past few years, farmers markets have been popping up all over our city and there are a lot more in our area than you may know of. So, whether you are on a local produce kick or you just want to support our local artists, follow our guide to Birmingham’s Farmers Markets.

Pepper Place Farmers Market

This popular market is open 7am to Noon on Saturdays from mid April through December annually. They host an average of 30 plus farmers and other related vendors. Pepper Place started the #LocalisBetter craze and has brought our community unique artisan goods, crafts and delectable prepared food. You also won’t want to miss their live music and food demos. Alabama’s Farmers Market

Open since 1956, this market is the oldest market in town. It has the variety you are looking for and the freshness you crave. They are open year round, seven days a week, and almost all day. This beautiful market is a must for the serious fresh produce shopper.  For a list of their vendors and produce, click here. 

Valleydale Farmers Market

This smaller market hosts about 12-15 vendors. They definitely believe in quality over quantity with their featured local farmers and vendors. They also have fun activities for the kids and live music. Check out this family friendly market from the beginning of May until the beginning of September.

West Homewood Farmers Market

Voted as 2015’s “Best Farmers Market” in Central Alabama, this market is the highlight of Tuesday nights in this sweet city. In June, July, and August they host 10 plus local farms, Birmingham’s favorite food trucks, as well as arts and craft vendors. If you are looking for great food and a good time make sure you stop by from 5 – 8pm.

UAB Farm Stand

This award – wining produce program is dedicated to Birmingham’s downtown food district. Offering fresh, seasonal fruits and veggies, you’ll find them on UAB’s campus. Boozer Farms, a small Chilton County farm, operates this market on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from the beginning of April to the end of October.

Gardendale Farmers Market

From May 19th – September 29th, this market will be around sharing their local goods. They also host bake-off contests that are surely fun to judge. Make sure to check them out on Thursday nights.

Mt. Laurel Farmers Market and Craft Fair

Every Saturday morning from June to October, you can find reclaimed furniture, pottery, woodcarvings along with the traditional fare of eggs, goat cheese, bread and fresh flowers. With such variety, this market is fun to explore.

Crestline Farmers Market

In the beautiful city of Mountain Brook, the Crestline Market is located at the corner of 29 Vine St. They are open through May to the beginning of October so you have plenty of time to try their featured, locally grown fruits and veggies.
