DESCRIPTION:About Party on the Porch\nEach Party on the Porch at our Homewood store focuses on giving back to our local community and raising environmental awareness for conservation\, access\, usage\, and education. The event is held on the first Friday evening of each month from April to October (except for July which we skip as it is so hot). \nParty on the Porch brings together local musicians\, breweries\, food trucks\, and artisans for an evening you do not want to miss. This is a family-friendly event\, with activities for kids\, a dog-friendly atmosphere\, cornhole\, giveaways\, and loads of fun! Attendance is free\, but we ask that of-age attendees donate (not required) $10 for a wristband and a souvenir cup with your donation going to a local non-profit organization at the event. \nNet proceeds from your donations at our May event go to Alabama State Parks. \nAbout our beneficiary: \nThe Alabama State Parks Division operates and maintains 21 state parks encompassing approximately 48\,000 acres of land and water in Alabama. DESCRIPTION:This free\, family-friendly conservation & environmental education event – led by some of our region’s premiere nature and wildlife experts – is a chance for people from all backgrounds to be introduced to citizen science and safe recreation in the outdoors. At a BioBlitz\, scientists\, families\, students\, teachers\, and other community members work together to get a snapshot of an area’s biodiversity. Enjoy connecting to nature and discovering new critters while contributing to scientific data collection on local biodiversity. \nFun Fact: The last BioBlitz at this location was almost 10 years ago\, making this a rare opportunity to gather new data on the park’s changing ecosystem. \nWhat is a BioBlitz?\nAt a BioBlitz\, scientists\, families\, students\, teachers\, and other community members work together to get a snapshot of an area’s biodiversity. This BioBlitz will bring local scientists\, educators\, conservation organizations\, and community members together to build an awareness of the biodiversity within local ecosystems while collecting useful scientific data. Teams of volunteers will work with onsite experts to find and identify as many species of plants and animals\, on land and in the water\, as can be found on this special site.
