SUMMARY:Got Sun? Grow Food!
DESCRIPTION:| \n \n \n\n\n\nThink you need a big backyard to grow vegetables? Think again! Learn how to grow fresh veggies in any sunny spot—from suburban gardens to patios and balconies. Advanced Master Gardener Karen Mitchell will discuss how to choose the best vegetables for your space and inspire you with easy\, rewarding options for a spring and summer garden. Perfect for beginners and small-space gardeners. \nLocation: Adventure Classroom \nInstructor: Karen Mitchell\nKaren Mitchell retired from AT&T in 2008 after 31 years. She was certified as a Master Gardener in 2009\, and her first project was spearheading the initial planting of the Hand in Hand Children’s Garden at United Ability of Birmingham. She is very interested in growing vegetables (where sun permits) in small spaces\, in raised beds\, or any container she deems fit. In past years\, Karen chaired the vegetable booth at the Friends of Birmingham Botanical Gardens’ Spring Plant Sale\, and deems herself a vegetable gardening evangelist. Karen also loves hydrangeas and is the past president of the Alabama Hydrangea Society. Concerns for watering hydrangeas and other plants during drought motivated her to install hose-end irrigation tubing with adjustable emitters to water plants at their base. \n\n\n \n \nBecome a Friend of the Gardens and join us in our mission to protect\, nurture\, and share the wonders of Birmingham Botanical Gardens. Thank you for your support! \n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister\nBecome a Member\n\n\n\nCancellation & Refund Policy\nRefunds (minus a $15 processing fee) will be given for Friends of Birmingham Botanical Gardens programs priced at $25 or more if notification is made at least 10 business days prior to class start date. Highlights include: \n\nTwenty three dinos including one of the tallest dinosaurs ever created — a Brachiosaurus standing 35 feet high; a 40-foot-long Tyrannosaurus rex alongside its baby; and a Triceratops the size of a food truck.\nTwo dinosaur nests – one with three Oviraptor babies and another with five Maiasaura hatchings.\nAn 8 ft. by 8 ft. dig pit featuring a variety of dinosaur fossils.\nA massive Tyrannosaurus rex photo op area in the Zoo’s Plaza\n\n“The dinosaurs are scattered throughout your Birmingham Zoo to give an authentic dinosaur safari feel as guests enjoy their visit\,” said Chris Pfefferkorn\, President and CEO of the Birmingham Zoo. “The Dino Safari experience features 23 full-sized dinosaurs uniquely created under direct scientific supervision. Unlike other robots\, these dinosaurs move\, breathe\, and roar\, appealing to guests of all ages. Dino Safari and the Dinosaur VR film are entertaining while teaching important conservation messages.” \nDino Safari was created by world-renowned dinosaur authority Don Lessem\, founder of Dino Don\, Inc.\, and advisor to Steven Spielberg on Jurassic Park. Lessem has led excavations and reconstructions of some of the world’s largest meat-eating and plant-eating dinosaurs from Patagonia. \n“We have gone to great lengths to ensure the most accurate dinosaur robots in the world\, and dinosaur fans love them\,” said Lessem. \nDino Safari is included with regular Zoo admission. \n  \nNew VR Experience: Dinosaur: Evolution \nResponding to the growing demand for immersive experiences\, Dinosaur: Evolution expands the reach of Immotion in museums\, science centers\, zoos\, and aquariums worldwide. The movie is available at the zoo for an additional charge. \nSet deep in the Hell Creek Formation at the end of the Cretaceous Period\, the film takes viewers on a breathtaking journey through the rise—and dramatic fall—of Earth’s most legendary creatures. Featuring scientifically grounded storytelling and innovative visuals\, the experience blends education with spectacle. \n“Our goal with Dinosaur: Evolution goes beyond delivering an unforgettable experience\,” said Rod Findley\, President & CEO of Immotion. “We’re blending science and spectacle to create engaging content that supports the missions of science museums and centers—where curiosity meets credibility.” \nThe VR experience was created in collaboration with leading paleontologists\, including Phillip Manning (University of Manchester; Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi)\, who also narrates the film. From feathered Dakota raptors to towering Tyrannosaurus rex\, every detail reflects the latest scientific research. \nMore than just a visual thrill\, Dinosaur: Evolution encourages reflection on evolution\, extinction\, and humanity’s connection to life on Earth—drawing timely parallels to modern climate challenges. You may view the trailer here: https://vimeo.com/1097701935 \nImmotion’s award-winning VR experiences are now featured in more than 125 locations worldwide. \nDino Safari will run from March 4 to November 1 and is included in the price of admission to your Birmingham Zoo when it is open. Closed Mondays and Tuesday except for major holidays. \n      \nADOPT-A-DINO  \nJoin in the fun: Adopt-A-Dinosaur today and display your name on “your” dino for the run of the exhibit! This is ideal for companies\, organizations or families and will be seen by hundreds of thousands of visitors. SUMMARY:Birding at Flying Creek Nature Preserve\, Fairhope (Free!)
DESCRIPTION:Flying Creek Nature Preserve is a 108-acre parcel of land between Veterans Boulevard and Fly Creek that boasts a diverse forest and riparian ecosystem. We will start our loop of the park\, traversing the creekside outer trail that attracts species like vireos\, warblers\, and thrush. We will cut through a portion of the pinewood forest en route to the bird blind area and this portion of the property is typically more quite for birds but woodpeckers and warblers can be seen moving through. Once we reach the bird blind area the forest opens up into a prescribed burn area with great edge habitat that holds pileated woodpecker\, warblers\, buntings\, and more. This site is newly opened to the public…\n—\nEvent details:\nhttps://www.addevent.com/event/jnvd3shh69jz\n——\nPowered by addevent.com\nShare your next event with us!
