DESCRIPTION:Award-winning playwright Tracy Letts’ newest play “The Minutes” will close Terrific New Theatre’s 2024/25 abbreviated season (“2024-25 Mini-Season: The Return of TNT”). The production will open on June 12 and run Thursdays through Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. with Sunday matinees at 2:30 p.m. until June 29. \n  \nLetts’ scathing new comedy about small-town politics and real-world power\, exposes the ugliness behind some of our most closely held American narratives\, while asking each of us what we would do to keep from becoming history’s losers. The one-act play is set in a town council meeting in Big Cherry\, Anywhere USA. \n  \nMichael Flowers\, retired professor of theatre from Birmingham-Southern College\, is the director. Birmingham veteran actor Kyle Holman will portray Mayor Superba along with TNT veterans Chuck Evans\, David Strickland\, Debbie Smith\, Flannery Whaley\, Jordan DeWitt\, Kendall Johnson\, and Nancy Malone. The Inaugural Alabama State Games took place in Auburn\, Alabama in 1983 featuring 600 athletes competing in four different sports. The Games now host thousands of athletes annually with 20+ sports featuring both team and individual competitions\, making it Alabama’s largest annual multi-sport event for athletes of all ages and abilities. The Alabama State Games program has grown significantly under the umbrella of the ASF Foundation\, a non-profit 501(c)3 organization\, committed to supporting the Alabama State Games and other programs that serve as a statewide mentor organization for teaching our youth the importance of academics\, athletics\, healthy lifestyles and good citizenship. \nThe Alabama State Games is part of a nationwide network of state games with a national organization called the National Congress of State Games (NCSG). These programs began in the early 1980s — with Alabama being one of the first programs started — as part of a grass roots effort to get more athletes involved and aware of olympic sports and to encourage them to possibly pursue participating in the Olympic Games. The NCSG is a membership organization comprised of 30+ Summer State Games and 10 Winter State Games organizations and is a member of the United States Olympic Committee’s Multi-Sport Organizational Council.  The mission of the NCSG is to support State Games member organizations in the promotion of health\, fitness\, and character building through multi-sport competitions and physical activities. The NCSG was created in 1986\, to serve as the official association of the State Games Organizations.  The state games programs provide a motivational goal for all athletes within the state in which they are organized. This guided canoe trip offers a rare opportunity to experience the breathtaking beauty of these iconic flowers in their natural habitat. \nThe Cahaba lily trip is one of our more physically demanding excursions\, requiring participants to drag their boats across Caffee Shoals on the return trip to the boat launch. As you step out to pull your canoe\, keep in mind that the rocks can be extremely slippery\, so caution is essential. This is why closed-toe shoes are required for all participants. \nDespite the challenge\, the reward is well worth the effort. The sight of the Cahaba lilies in full bloom is truly unforgettable. These resilient flowers are uniquely adapted to life in swift-moving water. Unlike their close relative\, the swamp lily\, which grows in marshes where its seeds can float\, the Cahaba lily’s seeds sink and settle among the foliated rocks of the limestone shoals\, ensuring their survival in the dynamic currents of the Cahaba River. \nWe encourage participants to bring cameras to capture the beauty of the lilies\, but please remember that we will be in the water\, so plan accordingly to protect your gear. This is an experience you won’t want to miss. \n  \nWhat to Expect on Your Guided Canoe Trip\nJoin us for a guided canoe trip through the stunning Cahaba River National Wildlife Refuge\, where you’ll experience the beauty of Alabama’s longest free-flowing river and its famous Cahaba lilies. \nMeeting & Departure \n\nOur group will meet at 8:15 AM at Amped Fitness (3427 Colonnade Pkwy\, Birmingham\, AL 35243) to caravan to the Cahaba River National Wildlife Refuge.\nWe will depart promptly at 8:30 AM. When books first started to be mass produced\, paste paper provided a quick and easy way to produce beautiful endpapers for the quantity of books being printed. It’s like fingerpainting brought to the next level! \n  \nIn this workshop\, we will create paste paper out of starch paste and acrylic paint using combs and stencils to create unique decorative paper. We will then create a reinforced cover and use a simple pamphlet stitch to create small sketchbooks or journals\, perfect for your pocket or purse. \nI will demonstrate decorative techniques and we will make several papers. While those are drying\, I will demonstrate how to build a reinforced (semi-hardback) pamphlet cover with room for one or two signatures or drawing paper. \n  \nTime & Date: Saturday\, June 14\, 2025. 10 AM to 12 PM. \n

Learn the answers to these questions and more at Ruffner Mountain! \nWe will be using a Powerpoint and life-size\, lifelike models of all of Alabama’s venomous snakes to learn field marks. One venomous snake will be on display behind glass\, and you will be able to meet and touch live\, nonvenomous lookalikes. \nThis program is geared towards ages 12 and up. \nDisclaimer: There will be live snakes at this program. This guided canoe trip offers a rare opportunity to experience the breathtaking beauty of these iconic flowers in their natural habitat. \nThe Cahaba lily trip is one of our more physically demanding excursions\, requiring participants to drag their boats across Caffee Shoals on the return trip to the boat launch. As you step out to pull your canoe\, keep in mind that the rocks can be extremely slippery\, so caution is essential. This is why closed-toe shoes are required for all participants. \nDespite the challenge\, the reward is well worth the effort. The sight of the Cahaba lilies in full bloom is truly unforgettable. These resilient flowers are uniquely adapted to life in swift-moving water. Unlike their close relative\, the swamp lily\, which grows in marshes where its seeds can float\, the Cahaba lily’s seeds sink and settle among the foliated rocks of the limestone shoals\, ensuring their survival in the dynamic currents of the Cahaba River. \nWe encourage participants to bring cameras to capture the beauty of the lilies\, but please remember that we will be in the water\, so plan accordingly to protect your gear. This is an experience you won’t want to miss. \n  \nWhat to Expect on Your Guided Canoe Trip\nJoin us for a guided canoe trip through the stunning Cahaba River National Wildlife Refuge\, where you’ll experience the beauty of Alabama’s longest free-flowing river and its famous Cahaba lilies. \nMeeting & Departure \n\nOur group will meet at 8:15 AM at Amped Fitness (3427 Colonnade Pkwy\, Birmingham\, AL 35243) to caravan to the Cahaba River National Wildlife Refuge.\nWe will depart promptly at 8:30 AM.
