SUMMARY:Disruption!
DESCRIPTION:Visit the Museum for a midday ArtBreak with Curatorial Assistant Hina Zaidi as she introduces Disruption!\, an exhibition that examines how artists challenge expectations\, question established norms\, and expand ideas of what art is and what art can do. Drawing from works in the Museum’s permanent collection\, Zaidi explores how disruption operates across media\, from visual experimentation to acts of resistance\, inviting viewers to look beyond the surface and engage more deeply with meaning\, context\, and perspective. \nThrough works by artists including Roy Lichtenstein\, Ray K. Metzker\, Glenn Kaino\, M. Claudia Bernardi\, Khaled Hourani\, Alison Saar\, Islam Aly\, and Michelle Erickson\, the exhibition highlights disruption as both a visual strategy and a conceptual framework. Rather than offering definitive answers\, these works pose critical questions\, connecting past and present moments of challenge\, protest\, and reexamination\, encouraging viewers to reflect on their own assumptions and role within a broader social landscape. \n\n\n\n\n Register to Attend\n \n\n \n \n\nFree \n\n \n \n Get Tickets!\n (opens in new window)\n \n \n\n \n \n\nImage caption: Glenn Kaino (born 1972)\, Bridge (Section 1 of 6)\, 2014\, fiberglass\, steel wire\, and gold paint\, 28 × 36 in. SUMMARY:David Haskell Presents How Flowers Made Our World
DESCRIPTION:| \n \n \n\n\n\nJoin author and biologist David Haskell as he explores the creative powers of flowering plants in his latest book\, How Flowers Made our World. an exquisite exploration of some of the most consequential life forms ever to have evolved. Inspired by the most up-to-date scientific research\, the book studies magnolias\, orchids\, and roses\, as well as fascinating but less well-known flowers such as seagrasses. Through radical genetic flexibility\, plants like these have turned past environmental upheavals into opportunities for renewal. This inventiveness allowed them to build and sustain rain forests\, savannas\, prairies\, and even ocean shores. \n\n\n \n \nBecome a Friend of the Gardens and join us in our mission to protect\, nurture\, and share the wonders of Birmingham Botanical Gardens. SUMMARY:Dino Safari – March 4 to November 1
DESCRIPTION:Your Birmingham Zoo is excited to announce Dino Safari will stomp\, roar\, and rumble into the Zoo beginning March 4\, running through November 1\, 2026. This larger-than-life prehistoric adventure will feature some of the world’s biggest and most scientifically accurate robotic dinosaurs roaming throughout the Zoo grounds. \nAs part of this immersive experience\, guests can also enjoy the new VR movie\, Dinosaur: Evolution\, transporting audiences 65 million years into the past. \n       \nA Prehistoric Adventure Awaits \nTravel back in time and encounter roaring\, breathing giants scattered throughout the Zoo to create an authentic dinosaur safari feel. Highlights include: \n\nTwenty three dinos including one of the tallest dinosaurs ever created — a Brachiosaurus standing 35 feet high; a 40-foot-long Tyrannosaurus rex alongside its baby; and a Triceratops the size of a food truck.\nTwo dinosaur nests – one with three Oviraptor babies and another with five Maiasaura hatchings.\nAn 8 ft. by 8 ft. dig pit featuring a variety of dinosaur fossils.\nA massive Tyrannosaurus rex photo op area in the Zoo’s Plaza\n\n“The dinosaurs are scattered throughout your Birmingham Zoo to give an authentic dinosaur safari feel as guests enjoy their visit\,” said Chris Pfefferkorn\, President and CEO of the Birmingham Zoo. “The Dino Safari experience features 23 full-sized dinosaurs uniquely created under direct scientific supervision. Unlike other robots\, these dinosaurs move\, breathe\, and roar\, appealing to guests of all ages. Dino Safari and the Dinosaur VR film are entertaining while teaching important conservation messages.” \nDino Safari was created by world-renowned dinosaur authority Don Lessem\, founder of Dino Don\, Inc.\, and advisor to Steven Spielberg on Jurassic Park. Lessem has led excavations and reconstructions of some of the world’s largest meat-eating and plant-eating dinosaurs from Patagonia. \n“We have gone to great lengths to ensure the most accurate dinosaur robots in the world\, and dinosaur fans love them\,” said Lessem. \nDino Safari is included with regular Zoo admission. \n  \nNew VR Experience: Dinosaur: Evolution \nResponding to the growing demand for immersive experiences\, Dinosaur: Evolution expands the reach of Immotion in museums\, science centers\, zoos\, and aquariums worldwide. The movie is available at the zoo for an additional charge. \nSet deep in the Hell Creek Formation at the end of the Cretaceous Period\, the film takes viewers on a breathtaking journey through the rise—and dramatic fall—of Earth’s most legendary creatures. Featuring scientifically grounded storytelling and innovative visuals\, the experience blends education with spectacle. \n“Our goal with Dinosaur: Evolution goes beyond delivering an unforgettable experience\,” said Rod Findley\, President & CEO of Immotion. “We’re blending science and spectacle to create engaging content that supports the missions of science museums and centers—where curiosity meets credibility.” \nThe VR experience was created in collaboration with leading paleontologists\, including Phillip Manning (University of Manchester; Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi)\, who also narrates the film. From feathered Dakota raptors to towering Tyrannosaurus rex\, every detail reflects the latest scientific research. \nMore than just a visual thrill\, Dinosaur: Evolution encourages reflection on evolution\, extinction\, and humanity’s connection to life on Earth—drawing timely parallels to modern climate challenges. You may view the trailer here: https://vimeo.com/1097701935 \nImmotion’s award-winning VR experiences are now featured in more than 125 locations worldwide. \nDino Safari will run from March 4 to November 1 and is included in the price of admission to your Birmingham Zoo when it is open. Closed Mondays and Tuesday except for major holidays. \n      \nADOPT-A-DINO  \nJoin in the fun: Adopt-A-Dinosaur today and display your name on “your” dino for the run of the exhibit!
