The pruning methods for these species differ\, each tailored to achieve optimal plant form and maximum blooms. Advanced Master Gardener David Doggett returns to the Gardens to lead a hands-on workshop that will demonstrate the different pruning techniques and explain how plant stems removed in the pruning process can be prepared as hardwood cuttings for easy propagation of these hydrangeas. Participants will take home a 6-pack of hydrangea cuttings they have prepared themselves. Step away from the hectic pace of modern life and inside the tea house to savor a bowl of tea with hosts Ritsuko Asano and Josh Haynes along with members of the Urasenke Association of Birmingham. In keeping with cultural tradition visitors are required to follow traditional Japanese practices when entering Toshinan (more information at registration). \n\nSince the tea ceremony will take place on the tatami floor\, we kindly request that you refrain from wearing jeans. Each month\, you are invited to explore a different aspect of plant life in the Gardens and a new watercolor technique. You can sign up for any number of workshops\, but sign up early\, as group sizes will be intentionally small. Participants will provide their own journal. Watercolors and pencils are provided.
