SUMMARY:Man Up Breakfast 2026
DESCRIPTION:Join Us for the 2026 Man Up Breakfast on Saturday\, July 11 at 9AM at Nikki’s Event Center (1153 Centerpoint6 Parkway)! \n  \nBe it mentors\, peers\, or father figures\, each year the Birmingham City Council\, Clinton P. Woods commemorates the men who make District 1 strong. Man Up Breakfast is more than an annual event; it’s an opportunity to honor positive male role models across District 1 for the support\, stability\, and guidance they contribute to our community. \nThe 2026 Man Up theme is: “Find A Need & Fill It”. Inspired by the philosophy of A.G. Gaston Great leaders don’t wait for opportunities—they create them. Whether in their families\, businesses\, churches\, or communities\, men have the power to recognize needs\, open doors\, and make a lasting difference. Inspired by A.G. Gaston’s belief that success begins by finding a need and meeting it\, this conversation will explore how purpose\, initiative\, and action can strengthen communities and leave a legacy that extends far beyond ourselves. \nFree Event | Breakfast Begins at 8:30AM // Program Starts at 9:00 AM (and includes a panel discussion\, honoree presentations\, and special features to celebrate the men in attendance). \nReserve your seat or table today! https://form.jotform.com/BHMDistrict1/2026ManUp

SUMMARY:Sunday Story Seven - with storyteller MATT DAVIS and music with MAMIE LEW
DESCRIPTION:Act I – Open Mic storytelling. Put your name in the hat for a chance to share a personal\, true story onstage. \nAct II – Featured storyteller Matt Davis \nAct III – Stories and Songs with Mamie Lew \n* * * \nABOUT OUR PERFORMERS:\nMatt Davis has performed at the prestigious Just for Laughs festival in Montreal\, JFL42 in Toronto\, Sketch Fest in San Francisco\, KLICfest in Malaysia\, UICF in Utrecht\, Netherlands\, the Bengaluru Comedy Festival in India\, the Top of the World Comedy Festival in Kathmandu\, Nepal\, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in Edinburgh\, Scotland\, Fringe World in Perth\, Australia\, and many others. Matt has performed in several hundred cities across 60+ countries\, including many where he was the first international or U.S.-born artist to work with local scenes. \n“Mamie Lew is a one-of-a-kind artist from Aiken\, South Carolina\, recently moved back from Nashville\, TN. Also popular in the Austin\, TX music scene\, her free-spirited\, flower child style consists of influences from legendary artists like the beautiful Emmylou Harris to Townes Van Zandt. Her creative mind is like no other. She provides unimaginable lyric that could only come from one place\, and that’s deep within the heart: evidence and markings of a true artist. She’s a real-life dream weaver who can express the inner feelings of your soul in a line of a song\, the things you dream about and feel that no one could explain. Mamie can perfectly mold them into a masterpiece of a song. I can say from personal experience from writing with her\, that when she sits in silence for 15 minutes then says\, “I have an idea\,” you know it’s going to blow your mind. Get ready to hear one of the best writers I’ve had the pleasure to know personally and one of the most kind-hearted as well.”\n-Victoria Camp\, Sweet Tea Trio \nABOUT THE STORY SEVEN:\nHave you always wanted to tell a story onstage? Or do you prefer to listen while others share? Either way\, join us at the monthly storytelling variety show the Sunday Story Seven. The open mic is open to new and seasoned storytellers – just put your name in the hat for a chance to tell a 5-minute true tale. SUMMARY:Gods of the Smoke Machine book launch
DESCRIPTION:Join us Thursday\, December 4 at 6:00pm Cha House for a conversation between author Scott Latta and John Archibald about Latta’s new book “Gods of the Smoke Machine: Power\, Pain\, and the Rise of Christian Nationalism in the Megachurch.” A question and answer session will follow. \nAbout the book: “We are entering a new era of religion in America: For the first time\, fewer than half the country belongs to a church. But within that group\, growing numbers are consolidating in megachurches\, which are amassing social and political power in our age of convenience and easy celebrity. \nGODS OF THE SMOKE MACHINE goes inside America’s largest churches to unpack the impacts of megachurch culture and hear stories from those who have been hurt by their growing influence and power. Combining personal storytelling and original reporting\, GODS OF THE SMOKE MACHINE pulls back the curtain on an insular institution of more than seventeen hundred churches nationwide that is answerable to almost no outside accountability.” \nBooks will be available for purchase and signing at the event. Hope to see y’all there!
