SUMMARY:C.S. Lewis: Beyond the Wardrobe
DESCRIPTION:Buy Tickets \n \nDoors open at 6:30 p.m.\, show at 7:30 p.m. \nC.S. Lewis: Beyond the Wardrobe – the year is 1963 and C.S. Lewis\, the famous British author\, is hosting a group of American writers at his home near Oxford. They are about to experience a captivating evening with a man whose engaging conversation and spontaneous humor made him one of the great raconteurs of his day. \nSeated in his living room and in front of a warm fire he recalls the people and events that inspired his thought and shaped his life; of his friendship with J.R.R. Tolkien; why he nearly abandoned the Narnia Chronicles; how he came to embrace Christianity and of the American woman who turned his life upside down. \nDescribed by critics as ‘Extraordinary!’ ‘A Must See!’ ‘A Master Class!’ An Evening with C.S. Lewis has proved again and again to be an enthralling theatrical experience and one which has led many thousands to discover (or rediscover) the continuing impact of a man who died over 50 years ago and whose collected works made him one of the literary giants of the 20th Century. \nParking Info: \n\nThe Lyric Theatre is not responsible for parking and does not provide any free parking for concerts.\nParking meters are free after 6pm on weekdays and all day on Saturday and Sunday.\nPlease be aware of tow-away zones. SUMMARY:Gods of the Smoke Machine book launch
DESCRIPTION:Join us Thursday\, December 4 at 6:00pm Cha House for a conversation between author Scott Latta and John Archibald about Latta’s new book “Gods of the Smoke Machine: Power\, Pain\, and the Rise of Christian Nationalism in the Megachurch.” A question and answer session will follow. \nAbout the book: “We are entering a new era of religion in America: For the first time\, fewer than half the country belongs to a church. But within that group\, growing numbers are consolidating in megachurches\, which are amassing social and political power in our age of convenience and easy celebrity. \nGODS OF THE SMOKE MACHINE goes inside America’s largest churches to unpack the impacts of megachurch culture and hear stories from those who have been hurt by their growing influence and power. Combining personal storytelling and original reporting\, GODS OF THE SMOKE MACHINE pulls back the curtain on an insular institution of more than seventeen hundred churches nationwide that is answerable to almost no outside accountability.” \nBooks will be available for purchase and signing at the event. Hope to see y’all there!
