DESCRIPTION:Join us for our monthly Nature @ Noon event with our friends at Ruffner Mountain! April’s walk will be led by Program Coordinator\, Andrew Lydeard and Alabama Audubon Ambassador\, Carter Bauman! Jefferson County Greenways Conservation Director\, Jamie Nobles\, will also be joining to point out spring native plants around the habitat gardens\, and some of the early ephemeral plants that should be growing as spring sun warms the forest floor—specifically those that benefit birds and other wildlife! The gardens that hug the parking lot add a diverse layer of habitat that provides cover and food for dozens of bird species\, and the surrounding mature woodlands can be excellent places to see a…\n—\nEvent details:\nhttps://www.addevent.com/event/7bd5ktkqh7w6\n——\nPowered by addevent.com\nShare your next event with us!

SUMMARY:Birding at Flying Creek Nature Preserve\, Fairhope (Free!)
DESCRIPTION:Flying Creek Nature Preserve is a 108-acre parcel of land between Veterans Boulevard and Fly Creek that boasts a diverse forest and riparian ecosystem. We will start our loop of the park\, traversing the creekside outer trail that attracts species like vireos\, warblers\, and thrush. We will cut through a portion of the pinewood forest en route to the bird blind area and this portion of the property is typically more quite for birds but woodpeckers and warblers can be seen moving through. Once we reach the bird blind area the forest opens up into a prescribed burn area with great edge habitat that holds pileated woodpecker\, warblers\, buntings\, and more. This site is newly opened to the public…\n—\nEvent details:\nhttps://www.addevent.com/event/jnvd3shh69jz\n——\nPowered by addevent.com\nShare your next event with us!

Open areas among the shady woodlands offer a variety of birding opportunities. From a small pond to a level\, accessible Rails-to-Trails\, fine-gravel greenway that runs along Black Creek\, this two-mile hike (for those who wish to walk rather than bike with the group the same day) will feature year-round residents such as woodpeckers and phoebes to warblers and swallows arriving during the early period of spring migration. SUMMARY:Biking and Birding Along 5 Mile Creek Greenway (Free!)
DESCRIPTION:Biking and birding along 5 Mile Creek Greenway: (Bike required.) Picture Rights & Owner Todd DeVore The 5-mile creek greenway is about 8.5 miles long\, connecting Fultondale to the outskirts of Brookside in Jefferson County. The path is mostly a former railroad line route\, a “rails to trails” type path that is flat and mostly consists of hard-packed crushed rock used by bicyclists. The plan is to bike at a leisurely pace from the Fultondale end to the Brookside end\, stopping every mile or so or when the habitat is promising\, or the birds are showing themselves nicely. Our stops may be 5-10 minutes in duration\, depending on what we see. When we reach the end of the 8.5-mile trail\, we will…\n—\nEvent details:\nhttps://www.addevent.com/event/w2rysdhv81v6\n——\nPowered by addevent.com\nShare your next event with us!
