SUMMARY:Red Mountain Community School Open House & Sampling
DESCRIPTION:Join us Tuesday\, March 3\, or April 14\, 2026\, at 8:45 am for a Sampling of Red Mountain Community School\, 500 40th Street South\, Avondale. This is an offering for families to join us for a tour and get a short introduction to our distinctives. Please let us know through email if you would like to join us. \nMission\nRed Mountain Community School\, a Choose Act school for 2026/27\, is an educational offering to the families of Birmingham\, Alabama in the Charlotte Mason tradition. We are an intentionally small (K-12) day school devoted to educating the whole person. Our program is especially designed to foster relationships within a rich and varied curriculum of books\, materials and experiences. Regular outings\, a healthy atmosphere of respect and care\, habits that develop life-long learners\, family involvement\, and consistent exposure to fruitful ideas are Red Mountain distinctives. We are informed by the following questions and keep them before us each day: ‘What is best for children?’ “What impact do our educational practices have on the mind\, body and spirit of our students and families?’ and “How can our school be a gift to our city and its residents?”

SUMMARY:Ladies Rock Camp Showcase
DESCRIPTION:Ladies Rock Camp is an intensive weekend program put on by Girls Rock Birmingham for female-identifying and non-binary folks 18 years of age and older that is redefining the term “lady” by creating an environment that is the antithesis of what we have been told it means to behave as one. Programming for Ladies Rock is similar to what girls do during our summer program: learn an instrument\, form a band\, write a song\, and perform your song live – in just a weekend! You’re invited to cheer on the bands of Ladies Rock Camp at our showcase March 1 at Saturn! You’ll hear the results of the hard work these women put into learning\, writing\, and honing their new craft as ROCKSTARS. Some very special guests will also be joining us. We want a HUGE turnout for these awesome folks so plan to be there!\nTickets are $10 and are available now through Saturn Birmingham. All proceeds go to help Girls Rock Birmingham bring empowering events to young girls. Kids under 18 are admitted FREE.

SUMMARY:Gods of the Smoke Machine book launch
DESCRIPTION:Join us Thursday\, December 4 at 6:00pm Cha House for a conversation between author Scott Latta and John Archibald about Latta’s new book “Gods of the Smoke Machine: Power\, Pain\, and the Rise of Christian Nationalism in the Megachurch.” A question and answer session will follow. \nAbout the book: “We are entering a new era of religion in America: For the first time\, fewer than half the country belongs to a church. But within that group\, growing numbers are consolidating in megachurches\, which are amassing social and political power in our age of convenience and easy celebrity. \nGODS OF THE SMOKE MACHINE goes inside America’s largest churches to unpack the impacts of megachurch culture and hear stories from those who have been hurt by their growing influence and power. Combining personal storytelling and original reporting\, GODS OF THE SMOKE MACHINE pulls back the curtain on an insular institution of more than seventeen hundred churches nationwide that is answerable to almost no outside accountability.” \nBooks will be available for purchase and signing at the event. Hope to see y’all there!
