SUMMARY:Poetics of Film: An evening with John Wall Barger
DESCRIPTION:John Wall Barger is the author of six full-length poetry collections including Smog Mother and Resurrection Fail. He will share selections from his latest work\, Resurrection Pie\, and 2024 book of essays exploring the intersection of poetry and film\, The Elephant of Silence. Miriam Calleja will facilitate a discussion and audience Q&A. Books will be available for purchase and signing. \nA widely recognized voice in contemporary poetry\, Barger has been a finalist for numerous awards and a recipient of multiple Canada Council grants. His writing has appeared in publications such as American Poetry Review\, The Cincinnati Review\, and Rattle. His work spans poetry\, essays\, and translation\, reflecting a life lived across North America\, Europe\, and Asia. He’s currently a contract editor at Frontenac House\, lives in Vermont\, and teaches at Dartmouth College.

DESCRIPTION:Learn more about one of the Museum’s most beloved masterpieces\, Lady Helen Vincent\, Viscountess d’Abernon\, by John Singer Sargent. \nThe BMA is pleased to welcome Dr. Erica Hirshler\, Croll Senior Curator of American Paintings at the Museum of Fine Arts\, Boston\, as the speaker of its annual Chenoweth lecture and reception. Hirshler recently curated the blockbuster exhibition Fashioned by Sargent\, which featured the BMA’s Lady Helen Vincent\, Viscountess d’Abernon.  \nAn expert in Sargent\, Hirshler has written and lectured widely on American paintings of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries\, particularly on American Impressionism and the Boston School. \nThe Chenoweth lectures are endowed by Dr. Arthur I. Chenoweth as a memorial to his brother and parents.
