The event is part of a national initiative dedicated to helping children build lifelong oral health habits. \nStudents from the Dental Assisting and Dental Hygiene programs will lead interactive oral health education activities. Attendees can participate in hands-on demonstrations using teeth models to practice proper brushing and flossing techniques and visit stations offering visual oral screenings and fluoride varnish applications. Participants will also receive oral hygiene products and samples to take home to support healthy habits. \nThe event will be hosted from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. on the Fortis Institute in Birmingham campus\, located at 100 London Parkway\, Suite 150.

DESCRIPTION:The 7th Annual St. Symeon Food & Culture Fair will be October 18 from 9-3 at St. Symeon\nOrthodox Church. Guests are invited to shop for baked goods and gifts\, enjoy hot lunch\nfoods\, tour the church\, hear the choir\, learn about church art and architecture\, and more!\nThe worship space at St. Symeon is entirely covered in floor-to-ceiling iconographic murals\,\nand guests can tour the church throughout the event. There will be three programs inside\nthe church this year: a new-for-2025 talk about church architecture at 10:15 a.m.; the\nalways highly anticipated choir concert at 11 a.m.; and the popular annual “What is\nIconography?” talk at 1 p.m.\nThe outdoor marketplace tent this year features six booths: the Middle Eastern Market; the\nBalkan Bakery; Babushka’s Kitchen; Southern Sweets & Savories; Cafe Europa; and\, new\nthis year\, Moana Munchies\, featuring Polynesian foods. The booths will have baked goods\nand other food items as well as art and other gifts. Shaped by Roman\, Byzantine\, Ottoman\, and Austro-Hungarian influences\, the country has\nabsorbed and transformed each while maintaining its unique character. Every folk melody echoes with\nHungarian harmonies\, every wooden gate bears Ottoman geometry\, every dish tells migration stories –\nTurkish-inspired mici\, Austrian schnitzel becoming șniţel\, Greek moussaka transformed into musaca.\nLanguage weaves threads—Romanian “cafea” from Turkish “kahve” from Arabic “qahwa”—connecting\nBucharest to Istanbul to Ethiopia. DESCRIPTION:InToto invites you to “Our Voices” for an evening that celebrates the healing power of creativity and community on Tuesday Sept 9th! “Our Voices” features visual art\, live poetry readings and musical performances from InToto’s participating artists across our 5 partnering organizations:\n*Firehouse Shelter for men\n*Pathways Home shelter for women and children\n*Faith Chapel Care Center serving people navigating housing insecurity\n*The 1920 Club for people in recovery from mental illness\n*Birmingham VA serving veterans \nArt sale 6-9pm\nLive performances start 7pm \nThis free\, all-ages event welcomes the entire community! Guests will enjoy complimentary refreshments. Donations are encouraged on a pay-what-you-can basis and will contribute to sustaining InToto’s mission of providing transformative arts experiences that inspire resilience and belonging for so many in our city who lack the resources and access to outlets for expression\, connection\, and healing. \nWe invite you to open your eyes\, ears\, and hearts in support of these talented artists and storytellers. 80% of art sales will go directly to the creators. The remaining proceeds\, plus any donations from the evening will support InToto’s healing arts programs for veterans and people navigating homeless and poverty\, mental illness\, and disability. \nWe are so grateful to be hosted again by the generous folks behind the stunning venue Avenue D Events and so appreciative to have support from: Alabama State Council on the Arts\, Blue Cross Blue Shield\, Second Row Law\, La Féte\, and The Retail Companies.
