This guided canoe trip offers a peaceful and immersive journey through the Cahaba’s calm waters under the glow of the moon and stars. As we paddle upstream\, we will move quietly and attentively\, allowing us to observe the sights and sounds of the river at night. After about an hour\, we will pause to reflect on our discoveries\, share observations\, and answer questions before making our way back downstream to the boat launch. \nThis flat-water\, out-and-back trip is designed for a relaxed and enjoyable experience. Since there is no current to assist or resist our paddling\, we will set a comfortable pace\, ensuring that no one feels rushed or fatigued early on. Participants will put in and take out at the same location\, eliminating the need for a shuttle. \nIn total\, we will spend approximately two hours on the water\, with an additional hour for setup and breakdown\, making the entire experience last around three hours. This is a rare opportunity to see the Cahaba River in a way few get to experience. \n  \nRegistration\nAccess registration form HERE. \nMake your suggested donation HERE.

SUMMARY:Guided Canoe Trip: Lorna Rd to Flemming Park – March 9
DESCRIPTION:When: Sunday\, March 9th\, from 9 am to 3 pm\nMeeting Location: Lorna Rd (Bains Bridge) Canoe Launch \nDay of event contact: Wil Rainer\, Mobile: (901) 210-7850\nRecommended Donation: $40 per person. Children 12 and under are free. Members\, remember your discount code! \nAvailability: Space is limited. We will develop a waitlist once all spots on the trip are filled.\nYou will need: Brown bag lunch\, at least 1 liter of water\, sun protection\, close-toed shoes you don’t mind getting wet\nWe will provide: Boats (contact wilr@cahabariversociety.org to inquire about using your own boat)\, paddles\, and life jackets.\nDifficulty Level: Easy to Medium: There is the possibility for downed trees that could be inconvenient to maneuver. CRS guides will help you safely bypass any obstacle along the way.\nRegistration: Email our Field Programs Director\, Wil Rainer\n\n  \nDescription\nJoin us for a guided trip to the most recent addition to the Cahaba Blueway\, Flemming Park\, at the confluence of Buck Creek and the Cahaba River. This is a great stretch of river for a beginner to advanced paddler. As with most of the Upper Cahaba\, this is a stretch that you’ll want to catch at the right water level. Paddling this stretch\, we can see the importance of managing the forest in a riparian zone. We will paddle through mostly quiet and remote areas and will see scenic rock formations and bluffs as we move downstream. We will also see some dramatic examples of the heavy erosion present on the Cahaba River. Remember to always be kind to your downstream neighbor! \nGuided canoe trips are weather and water-dependent. If there are changes or cancellations\, Wil Rainer will contact each guest and let you know the plan. \nWhat to Bring\n\nWater (at least 1 liter)\nLunch\nSunscreen\nSun hat\nClose-toed water shoes. Sandals and flip-flops are not protective enough when walking through the shoals. This site shows some of the shoes our team might be wearing.\nPhotography equipment (don’t forget we will be on the water)\n\nYou are welcome to bring a cooler for your water and lunch\, but alcohol is prohibited. \nRegistration:\nAccess registration form HERE. \nMake your suggested donation HERE.
