SUMMARY:Man Up Breakfast 2026
DESCRIPTION:Join Us for the 2026 Man Up Breakfast on Saturday\, July 11 at 9AM at Nikki’s Event Center (1153 Centerpoint6 Parkway)! \n  \nBe it mentors\, peers\, or father figures\, each year the Birmingham City Council\, Clinton P. Woods commemorates the men who make District 1 strong. Man Up Breakfast is more than an annual event; it’s an opportunity to honor positive male role models across District 1 for the support\, stability\, and guidance they contribute to our community. \nThe 2026 Man Up theme is: “Find A Need & Fill It”. Inspired by the philosophy of A.G. Gaston Great leaders don’t wait for opportunities—they create them. Whether in their families\, businesses\, churches\, or communities\, men have the power to recognize needs\, open doors\, and make a lasting difference. Inspired by A.G. Gaston’s belief that success begins by finding a need and meeting it\, this conversation will explore how purpose\, initiative\, and action can strengthen communities and leave a legacy that extends far beyond ourselves. \nFree Event | Breakfast Begins at 8:30AM // Program Starts at 9:00 AM (and includes a panel discussion\, honoree presentations\, and special features to celebrate the men in attendance). \nReserve your seat or table today! https://form.jotform.com/BHMDistrict1/2026ManUp

SUMMARY:Alabama spring skies
DESCRIPTION:In this immersive show\, we take you on a tour of Alabama’s springtime sky\, where familiar constellations rise and ancient stories come alive. From the unmistakable shape of the Big Dipper in Ursa Major to the bright arc leading you to Arcturus in Boötes\, you’ll learn how to navigate the heavens just by looking up. We’ll trace the path onward to Spica in Virgo\, uncover the regal presence of Leo\, and explore the faint but fascinating Coma Berenices\, nestled quietly between brighter neighbors.\nBut the journey doesn’t stop with the stars. We’ll guide you beyond the constellations into the depths of space\, revealing stunning deep-sky objects visible during Alabama’s spring nights—distant galaxies\, star clusters\, and hidden cosmic treasures that tell the story of a vast and ever-expanding universe.\nWhether you’re a beginner learning the sky for the first time or a seasoned stargazer looking to deepen your connection\, Alabama Spring Skies offers a captivating blend of science\, storytelling\, and Southern night sky charm.

SUMMARY:Local Legacy Conference
DESCRIPTION:A free\, full-day gathering for business owners\, advisors\, and community leaders focused on building and preserving community wealth through practical succession strategies that keep our businesses locally owned\, with a focus on employee ownership. \nThis conference was funded as part of the city of Birmingham’s BOLD grant initiative\, run by the department of Innovation and Economic Opportunity\, and was organized by a team of community residents that have been canvassing local businesses since January. \nThe conference doesn’t just bring outside experts to discuss business retention; it brings actual local business owners as honorary co-sponsors to tell their stories and speak on the importance of legacy (we can provide a list of local co-sponsors if helpful) \nIt supplements their stories with local and national resources in succession planning and employee ownership including Project Equity\, the National Center for Employee Ownership\, Transworld Business Advisors\, and the Birmingham Business Alliance \nAttendees will see a documentary screening on Alatrade Foods\, the largest employee-owned company based in Alabama\, and hear from Recovery Hardware founder Gina Schaefer on her own business’ transition. \nThis conference is part of our Local Legacy Campaign launch\, which has mobilized more than $100M from national impact investors to purchase legacy businesses from retiring owners and transition them to employee ownership — usually at little or no cost to employees. \nThe conference runs 8:30am – 3:00pm with a networking happy hour until 4:00. Breakfast and lunch are included. It’s free and open to all.

SUMMARY:Red Mountain Community School Open House & Sampling
DESCRIPTION:Join us Tuesday\, March 3\, or April 14\, 2026\, at 8:45 am for a Sampling of Red Mountain Community School\, 500 40th Street South\, Avondale. This is an offering for families to join us for a tour and get a short introduction to our distinctives. Please let us know through email if you would like to join us. \nMission\nRed Mountain Community School\, a Choose Act school for 2026/27\, is an educational offering to the families of Birmingham\, Alabama in the Charlotte Mason tradition. We are an intentionally small (K-12) day school devoted to educating the whole person. Our program is especially designed to foster relationships within a rich and varied curriculum of books\, materials and experiences. Regular outings\, a healthy atmosphere of respect and care\, habits that develop life-long learners\, family involvement\, and consistent exposure to fruitful ideas are Red Mountain distinctives. We are informed by the following questions and keep them before us each day: ‘What is best for children?’ “What impact do our educational practices have on the mind\, body and spirit of our students and families?’ and “How can our school be a gift to our city and its residents?”
