Publishers Weekly praised Captain Underpants as “subversively hilarious.” Newsweek called Captain Underpants “a triumph of irreverence\,” Slate.com hailed the series “slyly intelligent…revolutionary\,” and Entertainment Weekly called it “irresistible.” Captain Underpants has won multiple state book awards\, many of which were voted on by children. USA Today called Dav Pilkey “the savior of the reluctant reader.” \nLaunched nearly 30 years ago\, the Captain Underpants series has more than 90 million copies in print to date and translations in 37 languages. DreamWorks Animation released Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie in theaters worldwide. The film featured the voices of Kevin Hart (George Beard)\, Thomas Middleditch (Harold Hutchins)\, Ed Helms (Captain Underpants)\, Nick Kroll (Professor Poopypants)\, and Jordan Peele (Melvin). \nAbout Dav Pilkey\nDav Pilkey has created over 75 books for children and was awarded a Caldecott Honor for his picture book The Paperboy. When Dav Pilkey was in second grade\, he was diagnosed with dyslexia and what is now widely known as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Because of his learning and behavioral issues in school\, he was often sent out in the hallway. It was in his elementary school hallway where he created comic books about superheroes that eventually became Captain Underpants and Dog Man. Pilkey’s blockbuster phenomenon Dog Man released in 2016 has more than 70 million copies in print to date\, translations in 50 languages\, and is one of the bestselling graphic novel series of all time. The hit movie adaptation of Dog Man was released by DreamWorks Animation and Universal Pictures featuring the voices of Pete Davidson\, Isla Fisher\, Lil Rel Howery\, and Ricky Gervais. Cat Kid Comic Club series\, a spin-off of Dog Man which highlights how lessons in creativity often reflect lessons in real life\, is also a #1 worldwide bestseller\, translated in 28 languages to date\, and has been adapted to a hit musical from TheaterworksUSA. Dav’s first graphic novel\, The Adventures of Super Diaper Baby\, was published 24 years ago and became an instant national bestseller. SUMMARY:The Rush Tribute Project
DESCRIPTION:Buy Tickets \n \nThe RUSH Tribute Project is an homage to one of the most enduring and influential bands in rock music. \nCombining skilled musicianship with exciting performances\, The RUSH Tribute Project (known as RTP to its dedicated fanbase) delivers the magic of Rush’s famous live concerts. Covering all 40-plus years of Rush’s amazing career\, RTP painstakingly recreates the sound and energy that made Rush one of the top-selling rock bands of all time. With a lineup that has performed Rush tribute shows for over a decade across North America and around the world\, including RushCon\, RTP stands out as one of the premiere tributes to this legendary\, RnR HOF power-trio. \nUsing vintage instruments\, multi-camera projection\, state-of-the-art lighting & lasers\, and signature virtuosity\, RTP delivers an unparalleled concert experience for the casual fan as well as the most discerning Rush loyalist. \nSEAN JONES is a classically trained multi-instrumentalist\, which comes in handy when needing to cover Geddy Lee. He has played nationally and internationally in various Rush tributes over the past 20 years\, including playing for RushCon and touring army bases in Kuwait. Along with Geddy\, some of Sean’s biggest bass influences include Chris Squire and John Entwistle\, all of whom incorporated keyboards\, synth pedals\, guitars\, and other instruments into their performances. \nBILL HECK is a 37-year veteran of guitar and has been playing at some level since childhood. Bill was the proud recipient of the Wisconsin Area Music Industry (WAMI) Award for best guitarist in 2017. He has always been heavily influenced by guitar-hero rock\, hard rock\, and metal\, but always considered Rush and Alex Lifeson as the primary force behind his love for guitar playing. Bill could be considered the “new guy” in The Rush Tribute Project as he had to go through the heavy scrutiny of auditioning for the band but has happily been a member of RTP since its beginnings over eight years ago. \nTHOMAS SLAWNIK is the percussionist and has been with RTP since its start in 2013. Thomas started banging the drums at the young age of 4 and hasn’t stopped since. He has performed with several Milwaukee bands since the late ’70s. Thomas’ influences include Neil Peart and Scott Rockenfield. His current drum kit is a “Frankenstein” collection of drums and cymbals which include DW drums\, Zildjian and Sabian cymbals\, and various electronics. The kit is influenced by Rush’s R30 tour kit. When he’s not on tour\, Thomas spends his free time with his daughter\, Ina\, and enjoys golf\, bike rides\, and a good IPA. \nReviews \nWISCONSIN AREA MUSIC INDUSTRY AWARDS – “Best Tribute Band” (winner\, 2018; nominee 2021\, 2019\, 2017\, 2016) “Best Guitarist” (winner\, Bill Heck\, 2017) \nPABST THEATER GROUP – “An incredible recreation of the RUSH live experience [with] an incredibly loyal fanbase. It’s always a pleasure working with a band as good as The Rush Tribute Project. Highly recommended!” \nGO VENUE – “If you’re a fan of RUSH\, then you’re a fan of The Rush Tribute Project… catch their show as often as you can!” Read More \n\nParking Info: \nThe Lyric Theatre is not responsible for parking and does not provide any free parking for concerts.\nParking meters are free after 6pm on weekdays and all day on Saturday and Sunday.\nPlease be aware of tow-away zones. SUMMARY:Local Legacy Conference
DESCRIPTION:A free\, full-day gathering for business owners\, advisors\, and community leaders focused on building and preserving community wealth through practical succession strategies that keep our businesses locally owned\, with a focus on employee ownership. \nThis conference was funded as part of the city of Birmingham’s BOLD grant initiative\, run by the department of Innovation and Economic Opportunity\, and was organized by a team of community residents that have been canvassing local businesses since January. \nThe conference doesn’t just bring outside experts to discuss business retention; it brings actual local business owners as honorary co-sponsors to tell their stories and speak on the importance of legacy (we can provide a list of local co-sponsors if helpful) \nIt supplements their stories with local and national resources in succession planning and employee ownership including Project Equity\, the National Center for Employee Ownership\, Transworld Business Advisors\, and the Birmingham Business Alliance \nAttendees will see a documentary screening on Alatrade Foods\, the largest employee-owned company based in Alabama\, and hear from Recovery Hardware founder Gina Schaefer on her own business’ transition. \nThis conference is part of our Local Legacy Campaign launch\, which has mobilized more than $100M from national impact investors to purchase legacy businesses from retiring owners and transition them to employee ownership — usually at little or no cost to employees. \nThe conference runs 8:30am – 3:00pm with a networking happy hour until 4:00. Breakfast and lunch are included. It’s free and open to all.
