SOUTHERN DANCEWORKS CHOREOGRAPHER SHOWCASE SET TO DAZZLE AUDIENCES ON JULY 28
Led by internationally recognized artist Germaul Barnes, Tiny Danz is a showcase designed to give established and emerging choreographers the opportunity to create and present new dances in the intimate space of East Village Arts, a non-profit artist collective.
Birmingham, AL, July 12, 2023 – Southern DanceWorks (SDW), Alabama’s premier professional modern dance company, presents the first of a three-part choreographers showcase called Tiny Danz on July 28, 2023, at East Village Arts in Birmingham’s Eastlake neighborhood. The performance begins at 6:30 pm and will conclude with a Q&A conversation. This premiere showcase features works by international and national choreographers – Daniel Enrique Hernandez Brenes, Jasmine Dillon, and Derreck Williams. Showcase two & three will take place on August 25 and September 29, 2023. At the conclusion of the Tiny Danz showcase series, one choreographer will be selected to set a complete work for the Southern DanceWorks professional company for the 2024–25 season.
“I strongly believe in providing a safe space for dance artists to engage in meaningful conversations and explore new ideas, new voices, and new vision is vital,” said Germaul Barnes, SDW Artistic Director. “It is equally vital to have a nurturing environment where artists can share their artistic expressions without judgment. We invite the community to join us for an evening of breathtaking performances”.
