Join us for a preview of the new Ken Burns documentary, The U.S. and the Holocaust, airing September 18-20, 7:00-9:00 CST on Alabama Public Television, WBIQ-TV. This event will feature a 40-minute excerpt of the upcoming film.
Dr. Dan Puckett (Troy University) and Amy McDonald (AHEC) will provide commentary about “Alabama and the Holocaust” and lead an audience discussion about the film preview.
Dr. Dan Puckett is a Professor of History at Troy University with expertise in the Holocaust and Nazi Germany as well as Southern Jewish History. He is Chair of the Alabama Holocaust Commission and holds the Rabbi Theodore S. Levy Tribute Fellowship at the American Jewish Archive’s Jacob Rader Marcus Center. His work has appeared in journals such as Alabama Heritage, Holocaust and Genocide Studies, and Southern Jewish History. Dr. Puckett is the author of In the Shadow of Hitler: Alabama’s Jews, the Second World War, and the Holocaust published by the University of Alabama Press.
Amy McDonald is an educational consultant with the AHEC and a teacher at Shades Valley High School, where she teaches AP History and Holocaust Studies. She is a United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Teacher Fellow and a Lerner Fellow with the Jewish Foundation for the Righteous. Amy is the author of Determined to Survive: A Story of Survival and One Teacher’s Passion to Bring That Story to Life and Word Smugglers: A Story of Resistance in the Warsaw Ghetto.
