Science on Screen

February 28, 2019 @ 6:30 pm

The film series creatively pairs science-related films, like current classics, cult flicks, documentaries, etc. with introductions and discussions from local scientists, researchers and engineers.

The program is supported by the Coolidge Corner Theatre Foundation and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. Dr. Shauntice Allen is an assistance professor in the UAB School of Public Health and will lead a presentation during “Science On Screen” on the HELA cell line, informed consent and equity in research/medicine.

All movies will be held in McWane’s IMAX theatre and will be free of charge! Register here.

You’ll absolutely love the lineup of movies, too. The first film in the series will feature “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks” and will include a discussion on bioethics in medicine.

Future films/speakers will include:

  • Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (neuroscience and memory)
  • Gattaca (genetic engineering)
  • Contagion (pandemics and infectious disease)

Can’t make it to “Science On Screen” this month? No worries. You can catch the series every month from February-May.
