Renew Our Rivers Clean Up

April 6, 2019 @ 9:00 am - 2:00 pm

Free

The Cahaba Cleanup 2019 will be held at The Cahaba River National Wildlife Refuge in West Blocton, Alabama on April 6th, 2019 between 8AM and 1PM.

We will be removing trash from the river, its banks, and those tributaries that are accessbile. In exchange for a morning of hard work, we typically provide a light lunch of hot dogs and chips, gloves, water, sunscreen, and bug repellant, as well as a Renew our Rivers t-shirt.

At the conclusion of the event, we will quantify the trash collected, and provide a few prizes for some specific awards (ie Most Unique, Oldest, Largest, Dirtiest, etc….).

To join this community clean up, contact Myra Crawford with Cahaba Riverkeeper at myra@cahabariverkeeper.org.

Renew Our Rivers began in 2000 as a community river cleanup organized by Alabama Power employees from Plant Gadsden concerned about litter found along the Coosa River. Founded by Gene Phifer, the program is now one of the nation’s largest river cleanups including river systems across Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia and Florida.

For each cleanup, Alabama Power works with local community partners, volunteers and organizations. Since its inception, more than 110,000 volunteers have removed some 15 million pounds of trash from waterways across the Southeast. In 2017 alone, more than 4,700 volunteers removed more than 295,000 pounds of trash and debris from Alabama waterways.

This year, 30 cleanups are planned through November on the Alabama, Black Warrior, Cahaba, Chattahoochee, Coosa, Mobile and Tallapoosa rivers.
