Recorder: The Marion Stokes Project sponsored by Hoover’s Magazine, Vestavia Hills Magazine, and Mountain Brook Magazine

August 25, 2019 @ 12:15 pm - 1:42 pm

In 2012, civil rights activist Marion Stokes passed away in her Philadelphia apartment, leaving behind 70,000 VHS tapes of television recordings. For more than 30 years, beginning with the Iranian hostage crisis, Stokes recorded multiple networks 24 hours a day, providing one of the most comprehensive archives of cable and network news in existence. But why? This fascinating documentary examines both the life of the reclusive Stokes and the notion of historical preservation as an important form of political activism. — Corey Craft
