Party for the Planet : Spring into Action

May 1, 2021 @ 9:00 am - 2:00 pm

***NEW DATE***

Join your Birmingham Zoo on Saturday, May 1 from 9am until 2pm for Party for the Planet: Spring into Action! Celebrate the Earth’s biodiversity, and learn how you can take action to make a difference. Party for the Planet offers families a unique opportunity to visit and support their local Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) accredited zoo and/or aquarium while at the same time, learning first-hand about protecting our planet!

Party for the Planet festivities will take place throughout the Zoo, Children’s Zoo, and in Alabama Wilds.  Scheduled activities for the day will include education and conservation presentations, keeper talks, environmental activities, giveaways, nature place activities, and more! Party for the Planet at the Birmingham Zoo will focus on various conservation messages ranging from single-use plastics, sustainable palm oil, pollinators, bird strikes, and citizen science.  Guests will learn about immediate actions that they can take to have an impact on these conservation issues.

In conjunction with Party for the Planet, the Birmingham Zoo has partnered with Penguin Young Readers to host The Very Hungry Caterpillar Storywalk from now until June 30 in the Alabama Wilds area of the Zoo. This special exhibit re-creates The Very Hungry Caterpillar through a larger-than-life storywalk and gives children and their families the opportunity to read their way through the exhibit and experience the beloved classic together. As part of the exhibit, there will be photo opportunities, and a special visit by The Very Hungry Caterpillar himself on Saturday, May 1.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Storywalk will be linked to the pollinator station during Party for the Planet. In addition, the Zoo has partnered with the Birmingham Public Library for a collaborative storytime featuring books by The Very Hungry Caterpillar author, Eric Carle!

*Party for the Planet festivities and The Very Hungry Caterpillar Storywalk experience are included in the price of general admission for the day and free for Zoo Members.
