Noir at the Bar

Established and emerging authors will be reading scenes of murder and mayhem at Noir at the Bar at Wild Roast Cafe in Hoover. Find a new favorite, get a pic with a literary hero, leave with a signed copy of your book.Featured guests include Brian Panowich (LA Times Book Award finalist; winner, International Thriller Writers Best First Novel, and Southern Book Award) and Chris Offutt (author of The Killing Hills and Country Dark; screenwriter for Showtime’s Weeds and HBO’s True Blood and Treme’, as well as The New York Times bestselling author Rachel Hawkins and Amazon bestseller Emily Carpenter. Birmingham-based writers Hank Early (Heaven’s Crooked Finger, Echoes of the Fall), Karim Shamshi-Basha (Caldecott Honor winner for Cat Man of Aleppo), Bobby Mathews (forthcoming in 2022: Magic City Blues, Living the Gimmick), Schuyler Randall, and Haley Moon. Highly regarded poet and novelist Melissa Ginsburg will also read from her work. Mark Westmoreland (forthcoming, September 2021: A Violent Gospel) and noted short story writer and humorist JB Stevens round out the event. Live music will be provided by Brad Coltrane.Ticket price is $10. Outside beverages will be allowed. This is an in-person event, not a virtual event. Those who are not vaccinated for Covid-19, please wear a mask.
