NC Appalachian Trail Backpack Trip: Fontana Dam to NOC

I**nterested in a section backpacking the Appalachian Trail**? Join me hiking north to south from Fontana Dam to Nantahala Outdoor Center for 29.6 miles over 3 days. Due to the long commute from Atlanta area, I will stay at the NOC Friday night and you are welcome to join me or you can drive up Saturday morning.

Highlights of this section include great views of The Jump Up (an amazing view of the Nantahala river) and Cheoah Bald. The group will decide if we choose to shuttle our own cars or pay for a shuttle as well as where to stop for the night. We will let the trail tell us where to stop (or our stomachs/weather). The hike will end with li-dinner at the NOC: cold beer and great food!

**Please read and check back frequently, especially weeks prior to event–details are subject to change.** Experienced wilderness backpackers in good health only. Due to distance/length and steep climbs/elevation gains this is a **difficult hike.** We will hike a moderate pace (apx. avg. 1.5-2 mph). Be prepared for rain and/or cold, as well as ability to navigate independently with your own map. Please be aware of/prepare for bear safety. Should you fall behind or get ahead, it will be assumed that you are okay with hiking by yourself and have the ability to safely get yourself to evening destination.
